Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Night time leaks

My son can roll over and has taken to sleeping on his stomach (even though I always put him on his back).  Every morning, he wakes up soaked in urine.  It seems like he's sleeping with his legs folded up underneath him, butt in the air, and the pee is going up and out the top of the diapers.  We have tried Pampers swaddlers, baby dries, and cruisers.  He wears a size 3.  Any advice?

Re: Night time leaks

  • Do you make sure to point his penis down when you put on the diaper? If that's not the problem, just put him in a bigger size overnight and strap it on really tight. I could always tell Grant was ready for the next size when he started leaking at night.

  • I do point him down.  I guess I could try size 4 diapers, but he just moved into size 3s.

  • We had the same problems and pampers extra protection is what worked! I also make sure to point it down!

THIS. If he pee pee is down then you might want to go with a bigger diaper. We change our LO during his first feeding at night and that helped a little, but we ended up going with a bigger Pampers or bigger Luvs at night. They simply run big anyway and help catch everything.

  • We use Swaddlers during the day and Baby Dry at night.  Found that it works better to go one size up in Baby Dry -- so while he's a 2 in Swaddlers, we use a 3 in Baby Dry.  And make the tabs as tight as they will comfortably go.  Ours is a tummy sleeper, too, and we haven't had a problem since we upped the night size.

  • I know some people dread the thought of cloth, but it worked for us so much better than disposable. If anything, you might want to invest in a cloth cover or two and put that over his disposable. I've done that several times and it works. That way, if he soaks through, the cover will protect his pajamas and sheets.

  • We had the same problem.  Our son was soaked and waking up through the night.  Our Ped suggested to used your regular sized diaper plus "overnight" diaper, one size bigger on top of the first diaper.  He hasn't leaked once in 2 weeks.  It works great!
