Alexander used to eat pretty reasonable like a good baby portion. Now he eats like a big boy. For breakfast he has 1 egg, a fruit cup, half a slice of toast, 2oz of milk and this morning he also ate a snack of 1/2 c. of puffs 5-10 crackers, a tiny piece of cheese and 4 oz of water with a swish of orange juice (you can barely taste it so i don't even know why I added it but he drinks it faster than water)
Now I am stuck on what to make for lunch. I have some cooked brocolli and peas. Normally I would give him a fruit cup and crackers and a piece of cheese and some cooked meat but I feel like he had this of breakfast! so just brocolli and peas? Maybe some sausage?
Do you find your child is eating a ton too?
Re: Lunch for a 1 year old.
Austin eats a lot, but not as much as what you mentioned above. I give him his milk first in the morning and he drinks about 5 ounces of it right from his straw cup, and then I give him his breakfast, which is one plain pancake or waffle and cut up fruit. I think the milk helps fill him a bit before breakfast. He has a snack after his first nap which is a pouch. For lunch, I offer a half a sandwich, half a cup of veggies and half a cup of fruit and he eats it all, plus his milk. Then his second snack is usually cheerios, and for dinner (example) 1 meatball, half a cup of veggies, half a cup of fruit and that's it.
I don't know if that's a lot of food or not- I think it is! But I eat small amounts every few hours, so I guess he is too. Our food bill has gone up a bunch because he loves fruits and veggies so we're buying a lot more now.
I would offer a balanced meal at each meal and if you think he's had enough, stop and let him play and see how he does. Maybe if he drinks a little more milk he will be more full and eat a little less at each meal.
Lucia eats well when she's feeling well. These days she has a never ending cold so it's hit or miss.
Today for breakfast she had 3 pancakes (she left a little bit of the last one) with applesauce on them, and then end of the applesauce that I had taken out.
For lunch she had a quesadilla with cheese, corn, red onion, salsa, guacamole and sour cream (she likes to dip). And strawberries. Often she'll eat the entire quesadilla, but today she left some. Her nose is running like a fountain and she's a little cranky, so I wasn't surprised.
We don't do a snack between breakfast and lunch because there just isn't time. She eats bfast around 8, then nap around 9:30 or 10(she doesn't act hungry before nap), and then she woke up at 11:45 and we ate lunch around 12.
I just offer whatever I have on hand(leftovers) and if I don't have much I make a sandwich or a quesadilla, so I don't worry too much about breakfast being similar to lunch or anything like that. She's a good eat, and we have a pretty varied diet, so if things are too similar I figure she'll make up the variety another day.
