Exercise

Before I got pregnant I was an avid exerciser. Other than taking two weeks off while I had a nasty cold I have been going to the gym regularly. Lately, my husband has said I need to stop doing my favorite classes Zumba and hip hop hustle. My doctor hasn't said anything about stopping. What are your thoughts, time to slow things down and hit the elliptical or wall? I'm almost 32 weeks.

Re: Exercise

  • I would listen to your OB and listen to your body and how you're feeling.

  • I am still doing pump classes 3 times a week, yoga and running and I plan OB keeping it up as long as I can. I think as long as you are comfortable and aren't experiencing any pain it is fine and healthy to continue what you are doing!

  • I kept on exercising with my first pregnancy up until my due date and was fine.  I hope to do that with this pregnancy as well (33 weeks now).  My Dr. felt (and feels now) that without complications this is a great asset to pregnancy.  Her big message to me was that my body will tell me when or if it is time to stop.  Just keep listening to your body is what I would say.

  • I think you are fine to keep going.  If doc is not concerned I wouldn't be either.  I have lots of people telling me to slow down my exercise (which I have but they think I should do it more) but doc says no restrictions. Just not to go overboard. Which I'm sure you are not.

  • Listen to your body. My OB said most women stop running around 32 weeks. I'm approaching 33 weeks and continuing to run but will switch to something with less impact when my body lets me know I need to.

  • I just recently started exercising at the gym. I was in good shape before the pregnancy but was taking things really easy after having had a miscarriage.

It was nice to go and do about 30 mins on the elliptical and then do about 30-45 minutes combined of stretching, weights and pilates.

This is exactly what my Dr. said. Im still going to the gym 5ish days per week, with the 6th day being yoga day and usually I have a day off somewhere because lately it's been hard to find the energy to go everyday.

  • I asked my OB at my last appointment about my exercise routine, and she said nothing on my back, listen to my body and be careful of my joints because they aren't as stable. I think Zumba is fine. I am super uncoordinated but could handle Zumba no problem.

  • I actually just officially went on zumba hiatus, but mainly because I'm tired and wasn't enjoying it as much.  I'm 30 weeks now and when I was pregnant with DD I went on belly dance hiatus at the end of my 2nd tri.  The hip movement in Zumba and belly dance cause me major cramps and i can't do them.

I say if you feel fine, no reason to stop.  If something hurts or you are run ragged, take it easy.  The first couple months after baby comes are brutal as far as sleep deprivation.

THIS.  My OB said I can exercise like I used to and just listen to my body.  She wants me to keep exercising.
