So after B's 6 month check up yesterday we decided to 100% start solids this morning. The pediatrician didn't sound to thrilled about the idea of BLW and thought it was best to start with purees. So this morning we tried spoon feeding DS whole grain banana oatmeal. He kept trying to grab the spoon so we loaded the spoon and he brought it to his mouth himself. He absolutely HATED the oatmeal. He got it in his mouth and didn't even want to swallow. He started gagging and spit most of it back at us. I gave DS banana a week ago and he loved it so DH and I decided to just give him a whole banana again. He brought it to his mouth almost immediately and couldn't get enough of it.
I'm still going to do some puree but I think more BLW is what is going to work best for DS. It amazed me that if he ever bit off a large chunk of banana he would automatically spit it out. Crazy how early instinct kicks in.

Our pedi gave me major side eye about BLW and tried to push me to cereals and purees, but I consider how I feed my child to be a parenting decision, not a medical one, so....I totally ignored her.
Oh, and we went back for our 2 year well-check and she'd totally changed her tune, apparently I was the first in a larger wave of parents to bring up the topic, so now she's educated herself on it and is all for it.

This is kind of how I feel about it as well! I'm gonna do a combo of homemade purees and BLW. DS will take certain things as purees but wants to grab the spoon and feed himself. We've done Avocado and banana so far for BLW and I think I'm going to intro sweet potato and broccoli soon but steamed to the point of being pretty soft. Right now he's still mostly playing with food so I don't want to introduce to much since most of it ends up on the floor! :0)
