Prilosec vs. Prevacid???

Anyone know the difference? Anyone tried one or the other or maybe both and can share experience. Pedi wants to switch DS and I am not sure why and what the difference is? THanks

    From what I've read Prevacid has fewer side effects and has been studied more extensively in kids. Other than that, both are PPI blockers and should do the same thing. If I were you though I'd do zegerid before prilosec because at least with zegerid you don't have to give it 30 minutes before a meal on an empty stomach (huge PITA!)

    Your best source of info is https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/default.asp because you want to make sure whichever drug you get you get it in a stable form and the people on that sight know way more than your Dr. will EVER tell you.

    DD is on prevacid.  No side effects to report other than it works :)

    I don't know the difference, but our DS was on Prevacid and it worked wonderfully. No side effects or problems.

    Meant to say that Prilosec and zegerid have the same active ingredient it's just that the zegerid is enterically coated so it can be given at any time (and that's why I would prefer it). That said, my DS is on prevacid :)

    DS is on Prilosec.  Both work the same way.  We have the Prilosec as a compound. i Yes, it is ideal to get the meds in 30 min before a feeding. However, with an infant that is nearly impossible. Our GI said, do the best you can. Give the meds, then make the bottle, change his diaper, then feed.  That really is enough time for the meds to start to work.  I know a lot of kids here are on Prevacid solutabs. You can get it as a compound as well.

    after being on zantac, ds is on prevacid and it has worked wonders without any side effects

    Beware of pharmacy compounds, they are only good for two weeks!
