Dizzy sleeping on LEFT side?!

Okay, so we've all had it drilled into our heads that we should try to sleep on our left, since the vena cava runs along the right side and behind the uterus. But the last few nights, I've woken up feeling dizzy and like my blood was pulsing really hard while sleeping on my left side... and then it seems to ease up a bit when I roll to my right. I plan on bringing this up with my doctor at next week's appointment but was curious if anyone else has noticed this. It just seems so opposite of everything I've been told...

  • I am the most uncomfortable on my left side.  I don't get dizzy, but I feel like I can't breathe and get a little tingly in my arm.  At this point, I'm going to sleep however I can, and I'm really not too concerned about proper position!

Same here. And if I do happen to fall asleep on my left, then I always wake up breathless on my back. It never happens once I flip to my right.

I rotate positions so often at night.  I start on my right side then go to my left.  I'll wake up while on my left side when I'm feeling uncomfortable, but I have never had any dizziness or pain from it.  Often I wake up on my back as well.  But I change positions so often that I'm not worried about "proper" sleeping position.

  • I don't feel this but then again I normally sleep on my left side anyway. Plus I switch through the night. The only position that's uncomfortable is lying on my back.
