I vowed to not have a child who depends on their thumb... b/c you can't take their hand away when you're trying to wean them! Well, I'm eating my words! My 2.5mo LO loves it! We've tried four different types of paci's with NO consistent success. However, she just soothed herself to sleep sucking her darn thumb... I put her down drowsy, her eyes flew open immediately, I comforted her to let her know I was close, and she started sucking her thumb. I watched her through the monitor and she peacefully fell asleep on her own.
Re: We have a thumb sucker...
It was pretty funny to see her struggle/experiment with ways to get the hang of it. She'd get so frustrated and as soon as she'd latch on.... Oh Yeah!! lol She's an old pro already though.
I just REALLY don't want to have that 2 year old that's walking around with their thumb in their mouth. I'm not a clean freak or a germaphobe, but I don't want my LO to be putting her hands in her mouth all the time to increase the possibility of catching something.

Our lo is a thumb sucker to my great displeasure. We've told our parents if they see her sucking her thumb to take it out.
Neither myself nor my husband sucked our thumbs, but my sister did, and I don't think she stopped until around 10yrs old and one day on the bus I say a girl around 15 or 16 sucking her thumb, I don't want that for my lo.
This is us too, but our LO has been such a cruddy napper that I just think "go for it, kid!" now. Ah, how things change when you get into survival mode.
My LO just got an eye infection because he kept putting his mittens into his mouth and then rubbing his eyes with them
Just now I used a sterner than usual tone of voice when removing his hand from his mouth again and he just bawled and bawled!...
So I let him put it in again. Sigh.
