Going back to work-input needed

ok ladies I need your advice just to make sure Im not going crazzzy.  After 8 weeks off for maternity leave I returned to work and lost my job (owners sold the business).  I'm wondering if it would be ok when and if Im offered a job when I start looking that I ask to start in 2 weeks just to give myself enough time to end breast feeding and search for daycare. Cant put her in daycare right now since I'm only collecting unemployment and we all know that's not going to be able to pay for daycare and besides why not spend all the time I can with her while Im out of work and breast feed up until the last moment. Thanks in advance for the comments.

  • Absolutely. A lot of places when they interview you will ask verbally or in the application what the earliest you can start is. You can just tell them 2 weeks from the job offer. 2 weeks is pretty typically what they expect anyways. And depending on the industry you work in, a lot of them wouldn't be prepared for you to start ASAP anyways.. They have HR hoops to jump through to get you going, or possibly a drug test or background check or what not.

Good luck on your job hunt! And sorry about the layoff.

  • Depending on your state you may be able to get help for chilcare while you work as well. Here in MO during normal weekday hours it is free for some women
