I had my ultrasound at the RE's office done today. My betas weren't that great so we were hopeful, but still knew anything was possible.
The nurse did the ultrasound, poked around for a bit, and ultimately said "There is nothing there. We should see a sac at least."
And the other nurse said "So it's chemical?"
Nurse doing u/s says "no, probably ectopic."
Neither are doctors, just part time nurses. Anyway, they called the doctor, sent over their blank images and said they had to take a beta to see the numbers going down. I told her that I had a tilted uterus, and I've read stories where women don't see sacs but they do later. She looked at me and said "There is no hope." and just shook her head. The other nurse agreed.
We left the office devastated. We came home and just bawled like babies. I felt so robbed, like I had lost my child and will never even get a funeral. I just cried to the point where I was choking with my husband holding me.
The scary part now is that we were facing ectopic, so we needed answers there. DH urged me to call my OB and see if they could do some special imaging that might locate where the pregnancy landed.
Luckily, they got us right in. I was expecting for him to possibly find where the wayward pregnancy had ended up, but fully expected him to agree that there was no hope.
Within 10 seconds of his initial ultrasound, HE FOUND THE SAC. Right smack dab in my uterus. He said that we should not give up hope. It looked right in line with my betas, which yes are low, but it was right in line.
I am supposed to go back on Tuesday for another beta and Wed for another ultrasound with my OB, and never ever again with my RE's nurses. I could seriously strangle them. They took years off of our lives.
There's my update, and I'm glad it has a happy ending....for now.

Good news! Happy that you are still in the game!
Was either u/s internal (vaginal) or just abdominal? This early on, I thought only an internal scan would show something. Wondering if 2 different scanning methods resulted in different views of the womb.
My friend has a tilted ute and she didn't see a hb until 8 or 9 weeks - long after one should be detected. Her betas were going up (not perfect rising levels, but still upwards). She held out and they finally found the hb and she went on to have a full term pg and take home baby.
I have a tilted ute too. On one of my cycles, my RE could not find a hb one day at around 8 weeks (after we had seen a hb for 2 weeks already on several different scans). I refused to believe the pg was over and just knew I was still pg. I went to a different dr 2 days later and they found the hb. Unfortunately, though, I ultimately did lose that pg / baby at a later date.
Have everything crossed for you!

Great news! Hang in there, I know it is hard.
This is why (and I trained as a mid level health care practitioner so yes, I know what they are trained to do), I refuse to receive anything but the most basic of care from PAs, NPs, and/or midwives. For me, its a physician all the way, and one who's been in practice for years at that.
I am so sorry that you had to go through this, but things are looking up.

Wow!?!? I went through all the emotions with that story, sadness, joy, anger and hope. I'm tired even reading that- I can't believe you had to live it!
My heart goes out to you and I'm sending you all my positive thoughts.
What a terrible experience! I'm so glad it ended well. I want to ring those nurse's necks for that crappy information. I can't believe they are allowed to work with real patients. Sounds like they need more training (both technical and sensitivity!)
So happy to read a happy ending but seriously the nurses at your RE's office are horrible!! I'm so sorry you had to go through that! I hope you report what happened ot someone who will listen. They really should know better. Gosh!
Anyhoo - congratulations!!! Super happy for you!
I'm still trying to keep up with you through your blog, know you and YH are in my thoughts.
I hope the next ultrasound is amazing and finally gives you some much needed assurance. Hang in there, lady!
