Need your help ladies - 1st birthday party

We are having 40 adults, 6 kids (boys), and 3 babies at DD's party next weekend. Surprise  It's way too cold to be outside so everyone's going to be in our the house.  I'm a little nervous about having so many people in my house.  We've had big parties before but always outside.  Anyway, we are going to have tons of food and drinks and I'm sure the adults will entertain themselves.  And the babies will be fine too.  What I'm worried about is the 6 little boys.  They range in age from 2-5.  I'm nervous if I don't have anything for them to do they will be running around like crazy.  Probably chasing the dog around which our dog won't mind, he loves kids.  But in a crowded house with a bunch of people that's probably not the best thing.  What kind of games can I have to keep these kids busy and happy?

  • hi there...what about just putting on a movie?  or something that i considered for my twins' own b-day party was like a craft/art table...just a table with butcher paper and markers and crayons, maybe have a couple of coloring books too?  would it be too cold for like a mini bouncy house in your driveway or backyard?

good luck! and happy b-day to your little one!

  • Do you have a deck of cards or board games for them?  You could also do a game to include your baby, find pictures and do a match & memory game.

  • I am guessing that the parents will bring stuff that would keep them busy and happy for the most part.

If I were bringing a 2-5 year old somewhere, I would always bring stuff to keep them entertained.

So, that being said, I would echo the PP and suggest movies, cards, etc.

  • Do you have a hallway that won't be regularly used that day (meaning, not the only way to the bathroom/other widely-used room) maybe you could set up a bowling game or a bean bag toss game in the hall way.  Coloring books and crayons might be useful, too.

We're expecting a similar sized crowd for DD's birthday party (but we rented a venue because our house would burst at the seams) We'll have a bean bag game set up for the little ones.

  • I would have a room just for them with toys, movies, games, and videos games. I would also have an adult supervise since it could get chaotic. I would not have the older kids in the same room playing with the babies.

kids always make their way to other rooms in the house anyway. May as well give them a room.

I really really wish we had rented a venue.  I thought about it but DH was adamant about doing it at our house.  I think it will be ok.  Our house is a decent size and it's a nice open layout.  And we are removing a lot of furniture like coffee tables and end tables to make more room.

Play a cartoon movie and give them coloring books and crayons or a 99? Hot Wheels car for a favor, that may keep busy crashing into each other.  You can even make a scotch tape road on your floor.  When we had a bunch of little boys at our house for my 3 year old's party in December, they were drawn like magnets to his train table, but you probably don't have one of those yet.  It was near impossible to get them all in the room at the same time to play pin the caboose on the train, someone was always going potty, eating, having a temper tantrum...

We will have around that many for my LOs 1st in a couple weeks and rented a dining room.  I'm going to set up a make your own sock monkey hand puppet station with lunch bags, precut pieces of construction paper and glue sticks that their mommies can help them with.
