VBAC

Intro

Hi ladies! I am pregnant with baby #2. I had an emergency c-section with DS at 34 weeks due to fetal distress. I talked about the possibility of having a VBAC with my OB this morning and he was very supportive. I am so excited to try for this!

Any MUST do's or reads I should know about from those of you who have been through or attempted a VBAC? Thanks!

  • There are several old posts that have a lot of good recommendations, maybe take a look through those too. My main advice is to learn about labor, what's normal, read birth stories (esp VBAC stories) and build the confidence to give birth.  You have absolutely no reason to think your body is broken or can't give birth based on your history - you have every reason to think you will have a straightforward vaginal birth this time! So, if leading up to the last birth, you were well read on what normal birth is like, then review your materials. If say, you had only taken the hospital birth class, or maybe even hadn't gotten a chance to do one, then do your best to read and learn. Natural childbirth is encouraged for VBACs, and it seems many women, in wanting to experience birth, desire to take that route (that has been my personal approach as well)

Birth Without Fear Blog is great for stories, plus there are several here an many posted in ICAN groups. There's a VBAC facebook group that's very active.

Consider hiring a doula to support your choices in the hospital.
