We got LO the personalized mini surf boy backpack and matching beach towel from Pottery Barn which was 70 and a Backyardigans guitar from Amazon for 18. We are spending a lot on his party though.
I am mulling over a few things, mostly outdoor type gifts like a toddler swing and slide and maybe a a little push trike. I am going to try and keep it around $150. However, we are not having a big party. Just meeting family at the zoo for the day, lunch out and cake, ice cream and gifts at our house afterward.
We haven't gotten her anything yet and I'm not sure if we are getting her a gift from us. We are having a big party with 40 people and I know she will get TONS of stuff from everyone else. And throwing a party is a huge expense, with the food and the cake and everything else.
As she gets older we will be getting her gifts from us on her birthday.

I made her a quiet book, we got her some clothes and might get her a collection of Sesame Street DVDs because she loves Elmo. Other than that we're not going crazy. DH is building her an activity table for her bedroom and I'm going to make her a play kitchen. The latter two probably won't be done in time for her birthday, but she won't know the difference.
Her birthday party is going to be sorta expensive but with two of our loved ones going through chemo at the same time, it'll be nice to have a happy event to get together and celebrate.

We spent around $160 on her gift (we're re-doing her bedroom so this was for the bed set and lamp) plus we are also having a huge party for around 30 + guests (mostly family) so this will be a pretty expensive first birthday.
No party here.. DH planned a visit to the zoo before he even got here.
We'll be taking some days off since we have limited family time all together due to work schedules. We plan a zoo trip, DH is baking a cake for a smoosh session and we'll be going to the park and having a photo session with bubbles and balloons and his new kite... and just generally chilling out. Depending on the weather maybe a day trip to the coast since LO has never been to the beach and of course we have to go visit Grandma and the family up that way for a few hours.
We buy what we want, when we want so he won't be getting huge amounts of stuff just because it's his birthday. I am hoping to finish the toy box I am building but we really just want to enjoy the experience of his birthday so gifts aren't a huge priority and he has so much coming already and was totally spoilt at Xmas.. he won't care.
We never gave them a nursery due to the fact that I knew they were going to sleep with me. So we are redoing their bed room. Paint, furniture, new carpet and that is going to cost about $500 and we are having a small get together which will cost about $100 for food and everything so we are only spending like $50 on actual gifts they wont remember. and they have so much already. and it's twins to that is only $325 per kid.
Re: How much are you spending?
with our budget probably around 100-200
