Hello, I work at a Babies R Us. We are planning a store wide baby shower and I'm in charge of helping people plan their showers and give them theme ideas and things like that. I have a 17 month old son and my shower wasn't that great. We played the guess the baby food in the jar game. I got sick while playing and there was no theme. I guess I'm looking for good ideas that I can pass on to other moms to be.
Re: Need help with shower planning
Oh yuck, i'm sorry about that. One of my favorite trends is coed showers. Why the heck not include the S/O if they're in the picture. To make it more casual I asked that we have a BBQ outdoor gathering.
Including gender reveal with the shower is another really big thing right now. The big reveal usually is when the couple cuts into the cake.
I was solely suggesting it. I'm not a huge fan of it but some people may enjoy it as an idea. Now, about the wording I used. What's with preference over the word sex vs. gender?
Some suggestions:
Less is more. Simple is good.
Hopefully you are making suggestions to the hostesses and not to the MTBs. If to MTB: ask hostess how many she can accommodate, provide list for that number, provide acceptable dates, stay out of everything elese.
For hostesses: simple games that are optional such as gift bingo, "dont' say baby" (some people love and some people hate), guess the birth date/weight/sex, hostess provides some children's books for guests to sign, etc. Have a variety of simple foods and be aware of major allergies (e.g., a guest with a severe nut allergy who could get sick from something that has the nut even if not consumed). Lots of areas to sit and talk. Simple decorations (balloons, banners, etc.)--a theme could match the nursery theme, or "she's about to pop" or a favorite character or color. Name tags are useful when people don't know each other and have some people designated to "support" people who don't know anyone (Aunt Jill, Susie is coming, but she doesn't know anyone--would you mind making her feel comfortable?--you'll have to ask the MTB about this situation).
He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be. He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.
Of course you do, because you work at BRU and you are trying to make money for the company you work for. Your job has currently become to encourage women to be rude so that you can make a profit.
Didn't Chaz have the surgery? I know there was a TV special about her boob removal. Did she ever get a penis?
This is one of my pet peeves. I am all for recognizing the many differences people have in defining themselves and I think that most people are undereducated about those who don't fit traditional gender roles. But on the flip side of that are the people who are so militant about educating people that they feel the need to tell them that they are wrong to use a word (which is being correctly used!). Gender, while referring to the traits generally associated with a sex, ALSO actually just means sex. Seriously:
