Oh joy to the strep!

So my daughter has a type of kidney reflux, in a round about way is fortunate because if she gets a fever we get to go straight to the pediatrician to get it checked out to make sure she doesn't have a UTI. Well it turns out she doesn't have a UTI (thank god!) but she has strep throat instead!

I never would have guessed! Dispite her 102.5 fever yesterday afternoon she was laughing and giggling... I even went out on a girls night out and left her with DH, who of course acted like he had climbed a mountain all by himself when I got home (wonderful daddy to mommy guilt). I'm just hoping I don't get strep now!! I have made it just about this entire pregnancy healthy, and to come this close to the end and get sick just sucks!

Have a lovely weekend ladies!!

Re: Oh joy to the strep!

  • I used to get strep all the time as a kid without ever having a sore throat or feeling really sick.

I hope you you don't catch it! Good luck!

  • The one time my DS had strep I would never have guessed either! He just spiked a fever and had a bit of a runny nose but was otherwise acting normal! We took him to the doctor and sure enough the test was positive. And it turns out his ears were about to have ear infections as well, so we got the antibiotics just in time,

I hope your DD feels better :)

  • I am very sorry about your daughter having strep.  prayers she is better soon and you don't get it.
  • It's always good to catch it right away! The last time my son had strep throat, he came home from school and said, "Hi Mommy," and I knew. His voice sounded thicker and I am familiar with that 'red flag' from having strep twice a year or more growing up. He was on antibiotics and over the strep before he ever felt a thing.

Anyway, if you feel like your voice starts to sound thick -- like your throat is coated -- go ahead and have a strep test done, ASAP. You will head off a lot of misery.

Also, if her pediatrician didn't already mention it, be sure to replace your daughter's tooth brush with a new one!

yes! She did! My daughter had strep when she was six months old so we learned the routine then... But of course she wasn't brushing her teeth yet. So everything gets boiled!

  • My 8yr old has been out of school all week with Strep.  All he did was sleep.  He wouldn't eat or anything poor baby.  He's feeling better now. So glad he needs to get back to school lol... Hope your baby feels better soon.
