my dd was evaluated by the neurodevelopmental pediatrician on tuesday. they put her motor skills at a 5 month delay. she has low tone so while she's hit motor milestones a little later than average, she's still been in the average range. i'm not really sure i buy that she's delayed--when the pedi did the testing, she had been there for 2.5 hours, she had been awake since 5am that morning, it was 1pm and was in dire need of a nap. however if there's an actual delay there i want to obtain services for it. everyone on her team felt she doesn't have a motor delay but she also hasnt been formally evaluated since the summer.
wwyd--wait until july until her 1 year eval, or request she be re-evaluated sooner
Re: would you request a pt eval
I would get it now. DH and I were pretty resistant to adding PT to his already long list of therapies he was getting but we finally relented. He started getting it at home and now that he's in preschool, he gets it there and HE LOVES IT. Whether or not it's making a significant impact I'm not 100% sure but he likes it and maybe it is making an impact in ways that I just don't recognize. Like he's just able to do things now but to me it just seems like typical development. Like he can jump forward now where as before he could just jump up. He's not jumping down yet but with his love of jumping I'm sure it won't be long until he can. He's also much better at stairs, but again it's just one of those things that you maybe take for granted and I just aren't associating with PT.
Like auntie said, I honestly don't think he would've qualified for services through the school district if we didn't have the pre-existing need from EI. Even though his EI therapist stopped coming to the house because he said Chris didn't need it anymore - he just never wrote that on paper - so the standing eval held for the CPSE. We had a team meeting yesterday and his PT did say that she would recommend a continuation of services next year. Again, not something I think would've happened if we didn't have the EI pre-existing need.
Good luck!
I would request it now.
I'm another vote for the eval. I wish I had pushed for PT but I was completely unaware that he was behind until his 1/2 year review with EI. Since then he's aged out EI and didn't qualify for public school system. I'm trying to get private PT shortly (he has a dx of "lack of coordination" and still cannot jump well at 3.5). Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
