Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Not Eating as Much?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone else has had/or is having a similar problem.  DD is 5 months old (23 weeks) and up until about 3 weeks ago was a great eater. She was taking 30 oz a day (FF only), 6 oz every 4 hours during the day.  Now we can barely get her to take 24 oz in a day total, sometimes a bit less.  She will just swat the bottle away when she's done and there is not getting her to take more. We have tried feeding her every 3 hours, with less ounces and that doesn't work either. I am concerned, my husband doesn't seem to be. It's not as if she is starving and crying for food, she just doesn't see as interested in it.  I haven't called the doctor yet, because I'm not sure it really warrants a call. I'm a FTM and just not sure if I should be as worried as I am.  Any thoughts or advice would be great, thanks so much!

Re: Not Eating as Much?

  • I am having the same issue with my 4.5 month old usually eats about 32 oz each day but is down to about 24-28 oz.  I asked my pedi about it and he said as long as she was getting 24-32 a day she should be good.  Of course she is also suffering from a cold so I think that has a lot to do with it.  Is your LO on solids yet?  That might also have something to do with it.  Just a guess.  I would call your pedi if she is takign considerably less than usual but when in doubt, if you need the peace of mind, call the doctor.

  • Yes she started solids.  Thank you for the advice!! Someone also mentioned that she might be teething, which can affect appetite too.  Sometimes I wish she could talk already so I knew what was going on in her little head!!
