Please, I am in the home stretch of my pregnancy and excited to try to start losing this weight.

I plan to BF and will start exercising again as soon as I feel my body is ready.

Just looking for some success stories and advice on what routine worked for you!

  • Honestly, take the first 6 weeks to sink back into life again.  Take time to adjust to baby.  After birth and with breastfeeding, I was starving all the time.  Get your rest when you can.

After that appointment, you can watch your diet, allowing for an extra 500 calories for BF, adding exercise when you can.  I would put DD3 on the floor, bouncer, swing, PNP, etc-  next to the treadmill while I ran.  I did my first 5k (ever) when she was 3 months old.

  • Well, I lost all my baby weight but it took 15 months. That's probably not want you want to hear - but I will say some of that was my fault.

The first 6 weeks I did nothing. I focused on being a new mom, taking care of my kid, and trying to survive the sleep deprivation. Once I was cleared at my 6 week appt to exercise, I took DS on daily (LONG) walks in the stroller around our neighborhood and I started weight watchers. At 5 months PP, I was still only walking every day and doing weight watchers and I had lost 32 of the pounds I had gained.

I got lazy and I didn't try anymore until DS was a year old. I maintained the prior weight loss (32 lbs) during that time but didn't lose anymore. When I saw pics from DS' first birthday, I was mad at myself so I got back on the wagon again. I watched what I ate, walked every evening with DH and DS, and did the 30 Day Shred a couple times and within 3 months I had lost the rest of the weight (20 lbs).

I didn't lose any weight while BFing. I was one of the unlucky ones.

  • I agree with the pp that you should take the first 6 weeks off.  I would walk around the neighborhood with DD in the stroller but that was about it.  It took me a  year to get back to Pre pregnancy weight, but i had gained 76lbs with DD.  I went up to a size 14 with her and am now back in a size 4 :)  and have lost 85 lbs.  I got to my goal weight and still continued to loose without trying.

In the beginning I did a TON of cardio, 5 days a week every week.  I lost 1 pound per week with this along with eating clean.  The way you eat is most of it.  After 5 months of going cardio crazy I then incorporated 2 days of weight training which helped  my body look more toned.  when I was so close to the goal weight I switched to only doing cardio again and then went back to weight training. currently I go to the gym 3 days a week with cardio and weights. I have never been so strong in my life.  During my year long journey I also would fit in yoga, pilates, zumba, and pole dancing.  I would find that if I didn't vary my workouts I would get bored.  Even now I wish I could do something else but I need someone to watch DD so I can workout and our gym has a kids club.

  • First, congrats on your upcoming arrival! Motherhood is the best thing ever :)

Like all the other ladies said, you should probably rest and recoup for the first 6-8 weeks. Take a walk if you're up for it. But dont over do it.

I found that breastfeeding took a lot out of me. It also burned a ton of calories so I was constantly hungry! I snacked on nut butters and I ate a lot of oatmeal too. You'll need carbs for milk production, just try to stick to healthier ones.

Around 8 weeks postpartum I  started walking 3x a week with my little one. I started slow but gradually built up to walking 1-2 miles each trip. It was nice to get out of the house and get some fresh air. I would also do sit ups, push ups and squats. Body weight exercises are great because you can literally do them anywhere. I'd do like 3 sets of 10 reps while my munchkin was having tummy time or swinging.

I was able to loose all of my baby weight by 3-4months after birth. I did find that after I stopped breastfeeding I started gaining weight easier. I've had to modify my diet and try not to over do it on sweets since then.

     Good luck with everything!
