Litter box woes

Ok so I'm worrying ahead but here it goes. I'm in a 2 bedroom apt that is approx. 900 sq. feet. It's me, my husband, 2 big dogs, and 2 cats. Of course one bedroom is ours and the other is currently set up as an office and has the cat tower and litter box in there. The office will become a nursery/office when time comes.

Now my dilemma is where do I put this goddamn litter box. The only other place it will fit is my bedroom and that sounds like a horrible idea. I can just imagine my cats pooping at 3am and stinking me out of the room. My husband seems to think that a litter box is perfectly acceptable in the babies room I told him he was out of his goddamn mind.

On a side note the litter box and cat tower have to stay together. My one cat is a doll but a little nuts. She doesn't like venturing too far from her tower. She will poop anywhere she damn well pleases if I move the box to another room haha

Anyone in a tight situation and trying to make it work? Hopefully a bigger appt will become available  within the year but who knows. And getting rid of my kitties ain't gonna happen. I think I just needed to vent so I don't pick a fight with my husband.

Re: Litter box woes

  • Do you have a second bathroom?  Our litterbox is in the second/guest bathroom bathtub.  We use the master bathroom as the main bathing area.

    What about an empty closet?

Why don't you place the tower in your bedroom?

  • That was my idea. I wanted to move some stuff around in the living room to make it work but my husband is kinda a *** about the way things look. He doesn't want the cat tower in the living room cause it will throw off the ascetics.  So annoying. I can scoop that box 3 times a day but my one cats poops can wake the dead. I may have to give into the bedroom idea and let him get pissed about the 3am poop wake ups. That will teach him a lesson.
  • I have a type A cat too, who just loves to NOT cover her poop, so when she goes I have to immediately pick it up.

However having it in the guest bathroom limits the smell, and she never goes when guests are around.

  • No laundry area. Just 1 bathroom and its fairly small. Won't fit a litter box. My one cat is scared of the dog so she won't venture far from her cat tower. I literally have the litter box at the bottom of the tower. This is the same cat who got spooked in my last appt and lived on top of the fridge for a few months. I had to out a litter box up there cause she would just go there anyways! I love her but she's a pain in the ass. The things you do for the ones you love.....
  • @mainerocks-  Thanks so much. I think thats what I needed to hear. I've tried the furniture litter box hiders in the past and I wasn't a fan. One of my girls seemed to pee outside the box and then the furniture ended up being garbage.  I'm happy you can pull off dealing with it in your bedroom. I'll stop being a baby now :)
  • Our house is pretty tiny, so the only place for the litterbox is in the bathroom.

  • We have a similar situation.  I have an old house, and the closet in the bathroom was designed in two parts. The bottom of the closet is a hamper and is divided from the top where there is storage.  Even though we are not pregnant yet, we installed a pet door in the bottom section of the closet and relocated the litter box there.  I'm glad we did it early... it has taken a while for the cats to adjust to the pet door but it seems to work well.

Now I just have to figure out where to put the cat food when the 2nd room becomes a baby room!

You know what throws off aesthetics?  A toddler playing in a litter box. There is NO WAY i'd put the litterbox in the baby's room.  I also would not put it in my room.  Nope.  Is there room in your bathroom?  That's where we used to keep the tower and the litter box when we lived in a tiny apt.  Or could you get a smaller tower?  Or one that combines the litter box with the tower?  Like this: https://www.catsplay.com/kitcare.jpg" target="_blank" title="https://www.catsplay.com/kitcare.jpg">https://www.catsplay.com/kitcare.jpg

  • Holy moly. That's a lot of animals for an apartment! If the litterbox throws off the aesthetics of the living room then maybe think about investing in one of those hidden ones. There are so many kinds. Some look like potted plants, some look like furniture. It would definitely be worth the money AND later when baby is crawling around he/she won't be able to get into it.

  • My husband's cat, Frank, drops bombs like there is no tomorrow and he refuses to cover it. It's the most horrible stench. If that was in my bedroom, I'd curl up in a ball and die.

If they were on top of the fridge before, maybe you can put them back there?

  • Look up citi kitty online. Our cat is doing well with it and it is much cleaner and safer. She's a stinky pooper and we don't have to smell it now. When baby gets here it will be even more of a blessing
