Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Big girl bath a no go

My lo is almost a year and we still have to use her baby tub. I keep try to get her to sit in the tub but she is so scared. I even get in with her but it does not help. At this point I don't mind but she is getting a little big for her tub. Any ideas on how to help her?

  • Maybe try putting the baby tub in the big tub and giving her a bath still in her baby tub.  Maybe she just needs a slower transition.  Thank goodness my DD loves the tub, she wants to crawl all over and pulls up on the side so that is driving me nuts :)  Good Luck!

  • Have you tried playing in there with no water? Start by sitting in the bathroom with her for a while then sit her in the tub, fully clothed, with a favorite toy.

Also, my DS didn't like the running water so we couldn't go into the bathroom until it was ready to go and we had to leave before I could drain the tub. Now he's fine though.

  • Omg. My dd is 11 mos and we just did it. Did you try putting lots of toys in there and have the tub fill up while she's in it? My did was slipping and sliding and just wanting to stand up the first few times. Then all of a sudden!!

  • We don't have this problem, but for the most part I bathed DD in the big tub with me until she could sit, then we started bathing her in the kitchen sink, and we just recently moved to her in the big tub (she is almost 10months). She defintiely doesn't like hearing the water run, or being in the tub while it is running.

Maybe try a bath in your ktichen sink?

  • We are using an inflatable tub that looks like a duck, and put it inside the big tub.  We will probably do that until she doesn't fit or starts trying to stand up in it.  DD is a big ten month old-- already outgrowing most 12 month clothes, but I think I can get another 6 months or so out of the inflatable tub.

  • It is so interesting how babies are so different.  My DS loves the water running anywhere.  He cracks up if you are holding him and you get water out of the refrigerator door or run the kitchen faucet.  Same with the bath water, he loves it!  He does love lots of toys in the tub so maybe try that.  I have a inflatable tub that I put in the big tub.  Maybe it feels cozier and maybe your lo would like that better.
  • My daugt outgrew her baby tub so I got the munchkin blow up rubber ducky tub and its awesome and really cheap. It will probably last for at least another year
