Shower outfit blues

Just wondering what everyone is wearing for their shower. I need to go shopping, but I really haven't been in the mood to try on clothes and look at my prego self in a dressing room mirror. Feeling huge, not glamorous lol Anyone else feel this way?

Re: Shower outfit blues

  • I was. But yesterday I found a really pretty, simple gap maternity coral skirt. I'm going to wear it with one of my many black maternity tips and some cute sandals. Hang in there and give a few things a try.

  • My shower was last weekend and since I wasn't sure about the weather I didn't want to buy a dress. So I just wore black dress pants with a really pretty blue shirt. I got lots of compliments on my shirt.
  • I have no idea what I'm wearing to my shower yet, maybe a maxi dress since it doesn't necessarily have to be maternity and I can get some good wear out of it. Other than that, I'm really not trying to buy anymore clothes if I can help it.

I had a little bit of success at Forever21 last weekend in the plus size dept. Pregnant and shopping at F21...who cares, it's cheap and I wear their tanks under everything.

  • I went out this past weekend and got shoes, a belt, and a cardigan to go with my shower dress. I've had the whole outfit hung together all week and can't wait to wear it on Sunday. I'm also gonna curl my hair. Changing things up like that really helps me feel less huge and gross. I'm sure you'll find something cute! The dress I'm wearing is from Target.
  • I had a dress that wasnt maternity and everyone thought it looked terrible so I went with my sister and got this last week:

I bought some funky jewelry to go with it.  At this point I dont really care what im wearing.  Its super comfy and thats all that matters to me, lol

  • I bought this, in the lilac color.  It's not maternity, but it fits nicely and it's actually really flattering.  I might wear  a white cardi with it, but it isnt chilly here in April usually.   I bought quite a few of their regular maxis, and a couple of maternity maxis, I really love them.

I am going to try and find something this weekend. Last weekend I was on a road trip and stopped briefly at the Motherhood Outlet and they had so many great options! I didn't have time to try on stuff and pick a lot though so I'm going back this weekend. I love all the cute spring dresses they're showing, but they don't look that cute on me. I was plus-sized to begin with so now I'm just a big ball of huge so dresses don't really flatter me.

One piece of advice from someone who has struggled to feel good in clothing but loves to shop, try on things you wouldn't expect to look good. You never know what shape could flatter you right now so try a bunch of stuff!

So very true! I went to the maternity section at Macy's a couple of days ago and tried on every single dress that I "THOUGHT" would look good on my body and hated every single one. Finally went and grabbed a couple that I would never wear IRL (haha) and LOVED them! Just keep your options and your mind open! Good Luck!

  • While ur shopping it always worth checking out the non maternity clothes. My favorite maternity pieces are actually non maternity clothes!

I have two non maternity skirts with foldover waists. An expensive one from dillards and a
    cheap one from target.

I also have two non maternity dresses. Both have empire waists and are an ALine cut with flowy skirts. One is Ralph Lauren:

    The other is from Macy's:

I hope these help provide some inspiration!

  • I ordered leggings from Destination Maternity and a tunic sweater. I was very comfy, and dressed it up with cute jewelry and adorable flats. As much as it sucks to try on clothes, especially when you know all eyes are on you--realize a baby is coming!! Just be sure you are comfortable. :)
  • I wore this with a white cardi to my first.  Not sure what I'm going to wear to the second.

  • Thanks ladies! I saw some cute coral skinny jeans on motherhood maternity website, so I might order them or leggings with a cute top then pair them with sandals or toms.
