What would you do?

DDs dad and I have been divorced since she was 15 months old.  That being said she obviously never knew us as a married couple.  Her dad just remarried and my boyfriend and I plan to marry in the near future,  I still have my engagement ring and my wedding ring from my first marriage,  I was saving them in case DD wanted them but the more I hold onto them the more it feels like a waste.  I feel like I could use that money to pay off some debts and such.  What would you do hold on to the rings until DD is old enough to decide if she wwants them or just let it go and trade them for money? Our marriage ended badly (adultery and verbal abuse) so the jewelry has no sentimental value for me

    I'd sell them.  Make sure you keep pictures of the three of you and some wedding photos, but I don't think you need to hang on to the rings.
    Stay at home mom to a house of boys: two amazing stepsons, 12 and 9, and our 4 year old.

    Personally, I would sell them. I don't think I would want wedding rings from a failed marriage, I would think it's a bad omen or something, you know? I don't think your DD would care.

    And I think she might care. Just recently this issue was brought up here and a couple ladies responded that as daughters it meant a lot to them when they got the rings as teens. I realize they represent pain to you, maybe you can put them in a deposit box, away from your home and get them when your daughter is older?

    Ditto. To your DD they might represent that she was conceived in a marriage where there was love.

    Pawn it. My mom kept her jewelry from her first marriage and it always felt like a jinx. I wouldn't wear it now and it's not sentimental to me. My parents divorced when I was around 2

    My parents divorced when I was four and it meant a lot to me that my mom saved her rings for me. It reminded me that my parents really loved each other once. I was also born in April so they were my birthstone. Before I got married I wore them all the time.
    No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you. After all, you are the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside.

    I found myself in the same situation recently.  I took my rings to pawn shop and was very disappointed in the amount he wanted to give me...less than 1% of original value.  (I have no desire to deal with eBay/Craigslist.)  This was my deciding factor to keep them for DD.  She can decide what they mean to her and if she would like to remake them into something different.

    Maybe get the center stone re-set into a pendant?  Then you could pawn the gold.  I saw that done on one of those pawn shows (mom was deceased) and the daughter really liked the pendant.

     

    I like this.  It's cute.  But otherwise I would say sell it.  The marriage it represents will have been over for a very long time before she gets it, and it won't mean anything to her.

    I kept all the jewelery DD's BD gave me. I just gave her the first piece on her 13th birthday. I feel the jewelery represents the love that her father and I shared at one time that may not mean anything to me but means a lot to her.

    I sold my engagement ring, and bought new furniture.  I'd sell it.

    I sold my ring on craigslist. I had the diamond certificate and I had the buyer meet me at a jewelry store so he could see that the diamond was real and I wasn't ripping him off. I got close to what was paid for the ring. A pawn shop will give you a fraction of what the ring is worth.
