Where did you start with Dairy and Eggs?

I would like to start giving DD dairy products and eggs soon. I have read lots of articles, but all seem a bit different in terms of what and how much and how often.

How did you start? Cheese, yogurt? Did you give all the egg or just the yolk? Flavoured? Or flavoured with your own purees?

Re: Where did you start with Dairy and Eggs?

  • We started doing whole eggs (scrambled) at around 7 months.  Same with yogurt and cheese.  We have no food allergies in our family so I kind of started slowly just to be sure and then went from there.  Ped told us to wait, but I didn't listen.  Gasp. :)

  • We started yolks at 8 months (ish). No dairy or whites yet. I am waiting for her 9 mo appt as I have food allergies.

  • We did dairy & eggs at about 7.5 months...maybe closer to 8 months. She's had scrambled eggs (with whites) and plain full fat yogurt. So far she's just had the plain yogurt that has no added sugar (stonyfield organic). I usually add in some fruit purees, but she also likes it plain. DH has a shellfish allergy, I have no food allergies.

  • I heard you aren't supposed to give them the whites yet, and since my son gags on solids, I pur?ed the yolk and thinned it out with some water. He absolutely hated it. But I think it was pretty gross, too. The dog got to eat most of it. I will probably wait until he is taking solid pieces better to try eggs again. We haven't tried cheese yet. Some of the baby food pouches we have contain yogurt. He seems to like them.

  • We do plain yogurt (the big tub) and mix in purees. Started about 2.5 weeks ago. We tried the gerber yougurt before that an he loved it. Have you tasted the plain stuff? it is awful without the purees.

We tried scrambled eggs once... just a bite of mine with white and yolk (I tried to do a piece with more yolk). He's not a fan of having to chew his food yet, and while he loves to eat the first time we put anything in his mouth at a feeding we get a strange face from him like he is trying to say: "What did you just put in my mouth?"

DH and I don't have allergies, but my brother is off the charts allergic to peanuts, so we tread lightly with stuff right now.

  • We have no allergies so we started scrambled eggs, yogurt, cheese at 7 months just like the other 2 kids. He loves scrambled eggs with cheese. Yogurt I've quite giving him a little bit b/c he doesn't want anyone to feed him and I do not want yogurt all over my kitchen :) It took all them 3-4 tries with the eggs to start liking them. Our pedi agrees with how we feed our boys at this age. Since we don't have allergies anything is game except honey. We won't start whole milk in a sippy until 11 1/2 - 12 months.

  • We started with yogurt. We tried Gerber and Yobaby. He did not like either. I keep offering it though because I know it's good for him.

My DS had ice cream next. He loved that of course!

Then I did cheese. I just broke up some small pieces and gave it to him. He loves cheese.

We gave him scrambled eggs recently. He loved that too.

    I guess we're pretty adventurous!

  • We started with yogurt at about 6.5 months.  He's had the yobaby and gerber yogurt brands and he's also had whole milk greek yogurt with fruit purees mixed in.  He loves it all.

We tried string cheese about a month ago, but he really didn't take to that, and just recently I gave him some grilled cheese and some pieces of white american cheese, and he EATS IT UP!!!  Keeps looking for more :)

I'm going to try scrambled eggs really soon, in fact I think we are going to start them this weekend!  I'm going to do the whole egg, as we have no food allergies either.  He's been great with peanut butter an strawberries too!

Scrambled eggs are a good start I think. We've also given stuff in cheese with it. Also yogurt is a good snack. I don't think it matters too much where you start. Good luck.
