I got the news on Tuesday that am positive for GBS. My doctor doesn't seem concerned at all and said it's very common. They would start me on penicilin (SP?) when I go into labor and take me off of it as soon as my LO is born. I'm scared to even look it up and read about it. Do any of you have experience with having this?
Re: Positive GBS
Thank you all. I feel better knowing that it's more common then I thought.
Super common. I will be put on anti-b's during labour as well

With DS my water broke first. When I got to the hospital they started the antibiotics as usual, only they were concerned about making labour as short as possible since when your water breaks the baby is exposed to the bacteria until it is born. They wanted to augment me and I didn't know any better so I let them. I think this was a big mistake. My OB who wasn't able to be there for my delivery has said that she feels the too early intervention was a factor in my failure to progress and eventual c section. She says generally intervention begets intervention.
Do look up GBS, it's not a scary thing and it will help you to make informed decisions. Good luck!
