DS is getting a flat spot :(

We went to the doctor yesterday for DS's 2 month vaccinations and the doc told me he felt a flat spot starting. I noticed it earlier that day... it must have just started being noticeable.

The doctor said he really favors leaning to the right so I should always try to put exciting things on his left side in his crib. In his swing I should put a blanket under his head to make him lean to the left... and of course more tummy time (which I think I need to talk to my day care about...).

I am so nervous... I don't want him to have to wear a helmet :(

Anyone have any other ideas on how I could get him to favor his left side more?

  • (((hugs))) my ds has a horrible flat spot. seriously, you could rest a plat on it. hahahaha.

But I just reminding myself, once he is able to crawl and get off his back it should round out pretty quickly.

  • The pedi pretty much told us the same thing (DS also favored his right side and was getting a flat spot).  We managed to get him to lay more on his left side and now that's also getting flat.  At this point, I don't think it's too much of a concern.  Like the pp said- once they start crawling and sitting up, it should round out more.

  • DD is getting a flat spot on the left side and when we put a blanket rolled behind her she gets mad and thrashes her head around. She couldn't care less when interesting things we put on her right side to keep her off of the left side. She'll happily stare at a wall to lay on the left side of her head. And she HATES tummy time. She is starting to like her bumbo and I just hold her a lot so that her awake time is spent not on her head. I'm not too worried. Like Sarah said, it will get better.
  • DS is getting one too, at the back of his head.  Good thing he has a lot of hair, it hides it haha.
