Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Baby mimicking

Has your baby started mimicking you yet? If so, how old is your baby, and do you have a son or daughter? Has your baby said their first word yet? What was it?

DS is SO close to saying something (probably Dada), but not really any real words yet. I know babies are just mimicking at this age, but it's still special. DS babbles all the time, so I'm not worried.

This. Not to burst your bubble but I doubt your LO will say his first word anytime soon. I think DS was 9 months when he said Dada. By his 1 year appointment he said 5 words (Dada, Mama, Baba, Baby, and Dog) which is pretty good. Plenty of kids don't say anything until after a year old. DD has started to mimic in the sense that when we talk she will "talk back" and she will stick out her tongue when we do.

Bummer. So I'm guessing that my friend's daughter's (who is one day older than DS) mimicking is probably just coincidentally mimicking, not true mimicking?

I would think so. I think it's easy to confuse babbles with words. We joke that DD has said "Hi" quite a few times. It's just what her squeals sound like.
