Which model of the Safety 1st?? I have the 3 in 1 and while I haven't used it for car rides yet, I've only fitted K in it, I like it. It's solid and really comfy looking.
ETA: WOW. Just noticed that you did include the models. Ummm, sorry that I missed that. Looks like I need more caffeine.
I have the truefit from my first daughter so it's about 3 years old. Not sure if there have been any changes though.
I really wouldn't recommend it. I think it's a nice seat and everything but I feel like there are much better seats out there. The truefit is kind of a PITA to install. I haven't installed it with the LATCH so maybe if you are using that it's not as bad. To install it with the seatbelt, you need to remove the bottom part of the cover and it has these pieces that hold down the seatbelt. Once you get the seat in tightly enough it seems like it is impossible to button the cover back down.
I also think the seat is incredibly big and bulky. It isn't too much of a problem for us because I only have two kids but I cannot have another carseat in my car with the truefit and my daughter's booster seat.
I liked that the headrest comes off to cut down on the bulkiness issue but that's only to a certain weight/height and my 9 month old has already reached those cutoffs so we need to keep the headrest on.
The Safety 1st Guide is a nice seat, and it will last a long time. The True Fit is also a nice seat, but only rear-faces to 35lbs (thought I think the ones that will be coming out will be 40, not sure though) and some people don't like how it installs.
I would NOT recommend the Safety 1st Alpha Omega, which is the 3-n-1. The 40lb rear-facing version is outgrown early due to height, its a paint to install at the right angle, and it makes a terrible booster. People buy it thinking it will be there only seat, which is completely untrue.
I would suggest looking at the Car Seats for the Littles facebook group. They have a page as well as a group that you join. There are a ton of techs on there, including myself. You an see real life photos of kids in seats, see reviews of seats, etc.
