Six years ago, I had bariatric weight loss surgery, which is known to cause malabsorption of vitamins like iron and B12. I just took 3 home pregnancy tests, all positive yay! and started prenatal vitamins right away; I am about 8 weeks along. Typically, I take 2 chewable vitamins daily, but I'm wondering if that's the same philosophy with regard to prenatal vitamins. I have a phone appointment scheduled with a nutritionist at the clinic where my surgery was performed, but that's not 'till next week, so I thought I'd see if there are any pregnant bariatric postops out there that can share their experiences in the meantime. Thanks, everyone!

Re: Pregnancy after bariatric surgery
Hi! I had the sleeve 3.5 years ago so I don't have malabsorption, but I do take bariatric vitamins. When pg, I take an extra multi and am diligent about my calcium and iron too. I also add DHA per my OB. My surgeon gave me a handout with their pregnancy recommendations and I just made sure it matched up with my OB's recommendations. This is my second child post-op and my first pregnancy went perfect! GL!
