June 2013 Moms

Finally told my class

I teach kinder so they had no idea I was pregnant. I told them I was getting a new member of my family and had them illustrate and write what they thought I was getting... I got answers like: a dog, a polar bear, a chew toy, (strange!) and only 4 guessed a baby.

So I made a class book with all their guesses and we read it today and the finally page was made by me and it told them that I was having a baby. So of course here came the comments and questions. I told them that their hands have germs so they can't touch my belly because it wouldn't be good for the baby and I told them that my belly was going to keep growing because my baby was growing, this led to the comment "Yeah, you are going to get fat!!" Oh thank you 5 years olds. Leaves to eat some more food....

Re: Finally told my class

  • That's a great way to tell them! Don't worry about the fat comment- my nephew called us after Christmas to tell me "You don't look pregnant enough". Well thanks, Lil Man, I love you too!

  • That's fun. Teaching middle school, they already had an idea before I even told them. I swear they have a sixth sense for those things...

  • That is such a cute way to tell them and you made them think and learn at the same time. It is so funny to hear the comments that come out of little kids' mouths!!

  • That is a really fun way to tell your class.  "Chew toy" ha ha ha.
  • That is very cute way to share!

I'm an elementary PE teacher. My 1st grade girls keep giving me baby names.... Cinderella, Princess Jasmine, and Toby are the ones they like best.

When I told my 3rd graders, the boys responded with "disgusting!! gross!!"

    Always humorous with little ones!

  • That is an adorable way to tell them!

I used to work with a first grade class in my district A LOT, so I got to know all those kids.  When I told them, they made me cards and pretty much every card said "I hope your baby comes out." Thank you children... me too.

Congrats on telling your class!  The comments will only get funnier from here.

  • That was a really creative way to let your class know! Kudos! As for the fat thing, it must be the age group. My 4 year old BIL told me he didn't want to get fat like me. Ah, kids. They can be so darn.....cute.

  • Haha thanks ladies I had to end the conversation with them when they started talking about my belly popping at school and the baby flying across the room. They were very determined that they would be the one to catch it if that were to happen!

  • Love this idea. It could be used for younger siblings-to-be and would dub as a memory keep sake.

I told my HS students at 15 weeks by giving them a riddle...

What takes 3/4 of a year to arrive, and before it arrives, it gets a shower but doesn't get wet.

Only 1-2 students in each period got it. They thought it was cute and they had a bunch of questions too.

DH and I are team green and all of my kids are upset cause they want to know the gender and name (I'm a LTS and due June 9th, so I won't see these kids again after I give birth). They are begging me to bring the baby in one day next year.
