Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Stupid EASY method

Ok so I started doing the easy method with my dd in her first month. She is almost 4 months now. It has been great. I follow her cues and let her set the schedule but I always do...eat, play, sleep.
But it seems that everytime she wakes up from a nap she is ready to eat. I feel like she is used to that routine but I don't think it works when it's a short nap.
I read that some people loved the easy method in the beginning but not as they got older.
Anyone use the easy method and experience this?
What kind of structure do you use with your LO during the day?
Or does your LO eat after their nap too?!?

Re: Stupid EASY method

  • I've never heard of the easy method, but what you are describing is essentially what we do with our daughter--just let her tell us what she needs. Maybe you counld increase the amount that she eats at a given time? That way she won't be interested in eating when waking up from a short nap.

  • I loosely do the EASY method. My LO is 3 months old and still eats every 2 hours during the day though. Sometimes LO will wake up before it's 'time' for him to eat again but he's pretty content to just hang out in his crib until his next feeding. So I'll just put his mobile on and that usually entertains him until his next feeding. Other times if he wakes up and is crying and seems hungry I'll feed him right away. So I basically just let him set the pace, but more often than not he naturally follows the EASY method.
  • I have also tried to follow this.  My baby also seems to want to eat almost every time that she wakes up.  Yesterday I took my baby to have her second set of shots.  The nurse that was giving the shots was also a lactation consultant and she encouraged me to always feed baby on cue, especially if she is breast fed.  At this age babies are very distracted when they are eating and therefore they may not be getting full feeds throughout the day and need to eat more often.  This can also be the cause of them getting up more often throughout the night.

We follow the cues of our LO and they do the same in his daycare, except for food feedings. He gets his bottles whenever he wants them, but his snacks are on schedule. So slowly we are starting to set his new timeline as he gets older. Maybe you can introduce a few things: snack at _____, bath at _____....and slowly work him out of the EASY method.

  • We do EASY, but have him on a four-hour schedule, rather than three.  He's never followed a standard schedule, to be honest -- a lot of the times it's more like EASAS for us.  He almost always eats at the start of the window, but that makes sense because he sleeps at the end of the window.  Maybe try putting your LO back to bed for a bit and see if it helps with spacing?

  • I tried the EASY method and I suppose I follow it loosely, but my LO only naps for 30 min so it never quite works out. I just follow his cues and put him to bed when he starts getting sleepy and feed him when he's hungry.

  • We do something a little like that. Our babies are on a schedule, but if they're hungry or need a diaper change before the time to do it, we of course will. It keeps us OCD mommies sane.

this is how dd is now the last 1-1.5 weeks. I follow her cues. she generally nurses every 3 ish hours during the day but when she takes short naps its more like EASAS, which i'm ok with.
