Haha. I'm not gonna post a picture or anything.
I had my first dental cleaning in over 10 years yesterday. Gross, I know. I have had a lifelong fear of the dentist and thus take awesome care of my chompers to avoid trouble...and the chair. But I figured it was time to get over it because Lucy has her first dental visit in 2 weeks and I need to buck up.
The verdict: I did have buildup [duh] but the dentist said my mouth is cavity and gingivitis free and "beautiful". He totally put me at ease. So much so that I will return every 6 months for my cleanings.
Huge phobia conquered!!
Re: Can I AW my teeth?
Yep, my midwife had to fax an approval. Interesting, right?
One cavity is still awesome. I was convinced I would have a mouthful.
My BFF said she hates me. Dental hygiene is practically a religion to her and she see the dentist at least twice a year. She always has cavities and more recently needed a root canal.
Genetics, man.
Yay! Good for you!
My teeth are hurting, bad. I have one bad cavity on one side and when I was pregnant with M I broke one of my molars while eating fried dough (yeah, wtf right?)... my tooth literally broke in half, 2 of the 4 sections are missing down to the gum and the remaining two are practically slivers because the inside just rotted away and more broke off like 6 months ago. It hurts like a B some days, but I'm terrified of the dentist and I also know they will have to cut it out of my gum and I don't like surgeries either.... so I keep putting it off. Now my wisdom teeth are more aggressively coming in and if I don't get in to get them pulled they are going to ruin my other teeth that have been perfect my entire life and I'm going to need to get braces. Ugh so I REALLY need to get in.
Our lil' diva: late like her Momma: 40 weeks 5 days!

Dude, that's awesome! I haven't been in the same amount of time, for the same reason. I'm terrified. I take really good care of mine, too, but I know I just have to face the fact that I can't go the rest of my life without going. I said after DD was born I'd go, but here we are, pregnant with baby #2 and I've still not gone. I hated the guy I went to when I did go, and I'm just so nervous that I'm not going to be able to find someone, so putting it off is the obvious answer, right? Sigh...
Genetics is no joke! My mom has all kinds of cavities and my dad, who is 62, has never had a cavity. My brother and sister have cavities all the time...I have never had one! I really hope Riley has my good teeth!
Congrats by the way!!!

I had the same issue. I hated my last dentist. I saw him 5 years ago and he blamed my jaw pain on my being overweight...and I was barely overweight then. Punk.
So I say, find a dental office with a sweet receptionist that feels welcoming. That's what I did and the whole staff was a dream.
Do it, do it, do it!
Gah! Ok, I'll do it! But only bc you said so, not bc I want to
Woohoo! Glad you finally got over that phobia!
Can I just say that I'm jealous? I am vigilant about going to the dentist every 6 months (even though I HATE it) as well as brushing and flossing. I still end up with cavities every so often

That's wonderful! We've just successfully convinced a coworker to do the same - he has been once in his life, and his kids haven't been at all. He called the other day to book them all appointments. I'm so excited ;-)
Hurray for beautiful teeth! Definitely something to be proud of :-)

Reading a lot of these posts made me feel so much better. I haven't been to the dentist in forever! My mom had a dentist phobia so she never made me go when I was little...I'm too embarrassed to admit how few times I've been so I won't. Now that I'm pregnant, I keep thinking about how important it is to go. I just need to make an appointment...
I haven't been to the dentist in about four years. I effing hate the dentist. But I also have awesome teeth; I have never had a cavity or braces and all four of my wisdom teeth came in at 16 and are contentedly staying exactly where they are. That's why I'm wicked smaht. ;]
"Me and you, you and me, the two of us together!!!"
All 4 of my wisdom teeth had to be surgically removed so I am wicked dumb.
I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.
