I asked my family doctor today about donating stem cells. The only information I could get out of her was a pamphlet and paperwork for banking it through Healthcord. I'm not paying over two grand to preserve something for 18 years that my child(ren) may or may not benefit from. I'm not trying to be cheap, it's just really not in the budget, and the purpose of donating is to help others in need.
I phoned up a number that I found thru saskcancer dot ca but phoned a little too late in the day for the department that could better assist me. The rest of this week will be hectic so I won't be able to phone back until sometime next week (provided pregnancy brain here doesn't forget).
I'm really hoping to be able to donate them either for someone that needs them or to something/someone like a science department in a university who can use them to further our scientific knowledge on the subject.
Just in case I get discouraged hunting for answers and phoning around; would there happen to be any Canadian moms that could better point me in the direction I need to be looking? I want to be able to donate the stem cells since my unborn child and I don't have plans to use them, but I really don't want to have to pay to horde them all to myself either.
Re: Donating Stem Cells: Canadian moms imput please
This rule is from 3.5 years ago so it could be different now or not even apply to you since you are in a different country.
The moral of my post I wouldn't put it off too long just in case the time limit applies.

It looks like Alberta has a cord blood bank : https://www.acbb.ca/ACBBmain.htm
But it looks like they only accept donations from Canada (although they distribute the cord blood throughout Canada)
I'm not a mom yet but I have looked into cord blood banking and donation
www.lifebank.com was one of the websites I checked out. I know one of the websites I checked had a donation option instead of a banking option, but I don't remember what website it was right now. It may have been lifebank.
I also came across this website : https://www.cellsforlife.com/victoriaangel/options-for-parents.htm
