Cholestasis of pregnancy

I know it's rare, but has anyone had it? How did you feel? When were you diagnosed and how were you treated?

I was diagnosed at 29 weeks. I had severely itching feet and hands but it was also itching all over my body. I couldn't sleep at night and had to keep getting up and putting my feet in a bucket of ice cold water. I also had darkened urine no matter how much water I drank.  My Dr gave me a Rx for Ursodiol before she even did the blood draw. My liver AST and ALT levels were 15x higher than they were supposed to be and my Bile Acid levels were 3 or 4x high.

I'm at 32 weeks now. I go in twice a week for an NST on the baby and they do blood draws on one of those visits every week.  So far my numbers have been dropping nicely and the itching has been lots better the past week or so but the past few days it's been getting worse again. Hoping my numbers are still going down and not rising again. If they are we'll probably have to do an Amnio at 35 weeks to check the baby's lungs and may end up inducing then. Otherwise we'll induce at 36-37 weeks.

  • I had it a year ago. The only symptom I ever had was sever itching all over my body esp after the shower. I would scratch and scratch at nothing wondering if I was going crazy. I mentioned it to my doctor assuming it was an allergy thing, and that along with having developed pre eclampsia landed me in the hospital being induced at 35 weeks. My girl is happy and healthy now, but it was pretty scary for a while. Not wanting to freak people out, but they told me it is one of the main causes of stillbirth.
