Trial Transfer, does every RE do them?

I have been reading some blogs, and posts here about trial transfers before the actual IVF. My RE didn't say anything about that during my last appointment. I am going to the Texas Fertility Center in Austin. Is this required, and my RE forgot to mention it, or what?

In not sure if its necessary. My doctor did one. I think it was at my baseline appt. hope you find your answer soon.

I had one done a few weeks before starting IVF. It was required to do one. I believe the reason they do it is to make sure the cath goes in where it needs to and doesnt need to be bent or anything like that. If your have ever done IUI thats what it feels like, a little pressure but not too painful and its a pretty quick process.

I had mine during the saline sonogram. It was required so the RE can measure your uterus and see its positioning.

My RE said he was going to do one a few weeks prior to IVF so he would know how to "manuever" in there for the actually IVF (my wording not his lol)

My RE does a trial transfer on the same day as the saline infused U/S as part of his "IVF Consult" about a month before my IVF start date.

Mine doesn't do one, unless there's a specific concern. We're also at a big clinic where the doctor doing your ET may not be your regular ER.

My first RE didn't but my current one did. My first may not have because I had done a few IUIs with her and we had no issues. Basically, like everyone else has said, they want to make sure they won't have any issues passing the catheter through at transfer. Some are easier than others and they don't want to struggle with a catheter that's carrying an embryo and not place it where they'd like.

I've never had one, even tho all my paperwork has said I was going to have one at such and such appt., if that makes sense. I know that with some people with cervix issues it's helpful, but I wouldn't think it was absolutely necessary.

I didn't have one during my fresh cycle and won't be having one for my FET. I think it's up to your RE's preference.

I was a payient at TFC. Your RE did two of my transfers. She just did a "trial" right before the real transfer. This could be because my own doc did my retrieval, so Dr. B didn't get a chance to try things out herself. I never had a separate appointment for this no matter who was doing my actual procedures. I actually don't think it is standard there. I think it depends on your circumstances and whether they've already done uterine measurements on you for other reasons. Maybe she did this during your Lap? Out of 4 IVF's I did there I never had a specific appointment for this, though my first doc there did one as part of my initial suppression check for IVF 1.

My first RE counted the saline sonogram as his mock transfer. My new RE will be doing one Thursday, to make sure he familiarizes himself with the ease of entering my cervix. Yay me.

My RE did one. I asked him why and he told me he did them to avoid any problems when it came to the acyual transfer. They will make sure there is not scarring or blockage that will impede the tools used to transfer the embryos. They should walk you through it and get a feel for how your body is designed and what they need to do on the all important day. I would ask the RE abou it.

Mine did one- she said they like to "map" out everything to make sure it goes smoothly day-of.
