Summer shoes

Now that we got snow today, I'm happy and looking to spring... I like to have them without socks.  I like the looks of Keens, but I threw 3 pairs in my amazon basket and they were $45 a pop.

Any other good brands?  We tried the cheap off brands but halfway through summer the velcro was detaching from the straps... what's your favorite summer sandal?

Re: Summer shoes

  • I have had lots of luck with Kohls' version of Keens. DS has had them for three summers and is tremendously hard on them and they take the torture. We haven't ever had delaminating velcro, torn straps, or anything else. Last summer, he was even able to wear the previous summer's sandals for a month before he outgrew them. He hikes, wades in rivers, rode his balance bike and dragged his feet, climbs trees, scampers up rocks, the works. For a fraction of the price of Keens, they are worth it.

  • We either get Stride Rite or Teva sandals.

Both kids had these last year

I also got a pair of Target Keen knockoffs for DS and they were really great. I'm hoping to find another pair this year.

Same here. We still have the sandals in good condition as a hand me down for DD2.

  • I like Keens look wise...but I could NOT stand the smell last summer.  DS had two pair and I am DONE with them.  However, they held up well and looked good.  Just help you if you took them off his feet.  Yikes.

I much prefer Crocs...got DS three pairs for this summer + croc slip on boat shoes. Nike makes good sandals too.  Or speedo for water shoes/sandals.

  • I second Teva's Psyclone sandals.  I've gotten them the past three summers for DD and they are awesome.  They're as comfy as sneakers, but can get wet and they dry super quick.  They don't have toe protection though, so I guess it depends on what you want them for.  Good luck!

  • Keens are worth every penny!!! My kids will wear them from spring (as soon as its in the 50's) all the way through fall and they wear them almost daily as that is the shoe of choice for the summer school program and camp as they can do anything including get them wet.  I live in mine as well when out playing with the kids.  You get what you pay for and while I typically have a hard time paying so much for something I know they will grow out of after 1 season of use, with the less expensive brands, they don't last the way these do at all.
