Anyone using DHEA? What brand? In the past I remember reading something about so types being ineffective. Thanks.

  • RE said 50mg daily for 2 months then 75 mg daily when I start stims. He said GNC is fine. I was just curious what brand other av were using.

  • Old RE never specified. New RE wants Natrol. So etching about standardization and bioavailability. I went with it just in case.
    Married 2007
    3 Clomid IUIs -- BFNs
IVF #1 never made it to transfer
    On "egg health" cocktail DHEA/CoQ10/FRC/Pregnitude/Melatonin
Starting IVF #2 for Feb 2013
    Follistim/Menopur/Ganirelix
Cancelled mid-cycle due to high P4 levels early on.
OCPs again for IVF 2.5 mid-March. IVF 2.5 transferred two "gorgeous" 5-day blasts and BFFN. Even REI is baffled
On indefinite hold until a huge stroke of serendipity led me to IVF 3 May 2014
Testing found positive cardiolipins/APS, now on lovenox and intralipid infusions
Transfer of 2 5-day blasts and (FINALLY) BFFP!! 1st ultrasound shows two sacs and two HB, but one is sluggish, almost expecting vanishing twin Subsequent ultrasound confirmed vanishing twin, but my other Little critter looks fantastic!

  • There's a brand called Fertinatal that the Center for Human Reproduction officially endorses. I started using that because I figured if a well known fertility center was lending their name to it it had to at least be the right kind. It is more expensive than most other brands; around 200 dollars for a 3 month supply at 75 mg per day. I've tolerated it well, though; no obvious side effects except some initial moodiness.
  • Mines from my RE it's called Pure Encapsuleations. Micro DHEA and its 25 mg. I take it with breakfast lunch and dinner.

    This!

    *SIG WARNING*

You need to have your DHEA-S levels tested before you take it.  DHEA can be converted into estrogen or testosterone by the body.  If your DHEA-S levels are already high (or even on the high side of normal) and you start taking DHEA, you could end up doing more harm than good.  There is a theory that many AMA ladies and DOR ladies are low in DHEA and, therefore, supplementing seems to help them with egg quality. (You can read alot of research about it on the Center for Human Reproduction in NY's website.) However, this is not always the case.  I have DOR (siggy not updated but my latest AMH level was <0.16), but my DHEA-S levels are actually on the high side of normal.

IF DX: DOR & Fragile X pre-mutation carrier
    2011: FSH 13.3 & E 99; AMH 0.54 2nd FSH 6.2 E 40's AFC: 8
BFP from Clomid/IUI ~ Pre-e and IUGR during pregnancy ~ DS born 9/4/12
    Feb./March 2013: AMH less than 0.16 (undectable) and AFC = 4;
BFP from supps ~ DS#2 due May 2014

  • This. Except I ordered it from Amazon.com.

My nurse coordinator told me to make sure that whichever brand I get, it needs to say it's micronized or (mcg).

  • To add to my previous post. My doctor recommended fertinatal. (I had egg quality issues.)
