I used to post on here when the AP board was new but have fallen away. I hope nobody minds my asking for advice now!
When my first was little I had a hotsling, which I absolutely loved. Unfortunately when she was about a year and a half it fell off my stroller and got lost . When her sister was born I replaced that with a moby, which I liked a lot except my kids tend to gain quickly so by the time she was about 4 months old it was stretching too much to use (I would tie it so tight it would almost hurt and within an hour she would be so loose she wasn't secure). Now I have baby 3 and he's comfy in the moby, but started a full lb larger than his sister and is gaining at the same pace she did, so I know we won't be able to use it very long.
I don't have a lot to spend and don't envision keeping him in a sling/wrap as much as his sisters were in it (when they were little we were living in NYC so the sling was how I took them on the subway and such until they were too big/heavy to go in a carrier; now we're in the 'burbs and drive more frequently so when we're out of the house he'll have to be in the carseat more). So for a less frequent wearer on a budget who loved her hotsling, what would you recommend? I tried a basic sling from target and the size L was still a little too small due to my chest size (pre pregnancy I'm a 34DD, with nursing right now I know I'm a lot bigger).
DHs one request is that it be as easy to use and put on while holding the baby as the hotsling, which he absolutely loved. He likes the moby but finds it too complicated and we can't afford to spend more than maybe $50, preferably less (it seems hotslings got pricier, our first was $40).
Re: Looking for sling advice
I agree, a ring sling would probably be great for you.
Look at Sleeping Baby Productions. She has slings near that price range and she also has DIY instructions.
I just bought a ring sling from Sleeping Baby.

I had the same problem with a big baby in the Moby, plus a summer baby so it was too hot to use until she was really too big. (And she hated it.)
The sling actually came very quickly and seems like it's well made. It's on my To Do list to figure out how to use it before baby comes.
