Breastfeeding

Breast feeding mom. What kind of bottles did or are you used?

I know it all depends on the baby. I will like to get an idea.

Re: Breast feeding mom. What kind of bottles did or are you used?

  • the only one my guy would take is born free. i have two friends whose babies would only take that one as well.

  • We used Breastflow with DD1 and with DD2 we used Tommee Teepee brand.

Overall, I like the TT brand better because there are so few parts to it. Just the bottle and the nipple. With the breastflow, there was an insert that went inside the nipple which made for one more piece to wash.

Both of my girls did fine going from breast to bottle and back.

  • Both of my boys did well using playtex Ventair. We tried breastflow and Dr. Brown with DS1 but he only liked Ventair. DS2 will take anything but Tommee Tippee and Avent seem to flow too fast for him even using the slow flow nipple. He had horrible gas anytime we bottle fed until we switched him to Ventair.
  • We only use the medela bottles.  It's just easier to pump right into the bottle and then put it in the fridge.  Even if i'm thawing it out I still use the medela bottles.  I have avent but never really used them.

  • I wanted to use the Medela bottles because, like BeachBabe said, it's easier to just pump right in to them and then feed LO from them without having to transfer the milk or wash extra bottles but unfortunately, they made LO spit up a lot more so we had to switch.  Now we use the Tommee Tippee bottles and she does much better with those.  I think it helps that they're lower flow than the Medela bottles.
  • Avent Natural- no extra pieces and they flow slowly without too much air. Baby boy doesn't get extra fussy or gassy.

to pump directly into the bottles! The caps even fit on the bottles :)  I LOVE it :)

She loves the bottles but disclosure that she'll take any bottle - I just chose these ones first.

  • We tried medula but it came out way to fast so he uses advent natural and it works for him.

  • Dr. Browns wide.

We started with TT (they were way too fast for her- bad gas!). Then tried Avent natural, Dr. Browns wide, Playtex Ventair wide, and breastflow. Dr. Browns work the best for LO. It was kind of a pain to buy and try so many (especially bc she only gets one bottle a day), but now I feel like we are using the right bottle for our daughter. I wish there were an easier (and cheaper!) way to figure it out... Good luck!

  • We tried Avent, Evenflo, Breastflow, Medela, and Dr. Brown. DH hated the Avent ones and LO didn't seem to like them either. We only had 1 Breastflow (hand-me-down) and 2 Medela (from pump) so they didn't get used often either. Daycare observed that LO seemed to have the best latch with Evenflo over the Dr. Brown, so we bought a dozen of those and haven't had any problems since.

I was happy since Evenflos are the cheapest around, they have the same thread as the Medela pumps so I can pump right into the bottle if I want and they have very few parts.

LO does have nipple preference, but it's for me, so I'm fine with that.

  • We use Avent. He'll also take the Similac Smart when all our Avents are dirty.

  • We used Dr. Browns and Tommee Tippee.  I liked the Dr. Browns because I could pump right into them.  I liked the Tommee Tippee because they fit my frozen sticks of breastmilk better.

AND Tommee Tippee has incredible customer service. Daycare kept losing my caps (sending them home with another kid) so I wrote to TT asking where I could buy more.  2 days later they had sent me a bunch of caps - for free.

  • We started with Avent Naturals, which even with the slowest flow nipple are WAY too fast for my LO.  I also have one "classic" Avent which is also too fast.  Same thing with the Medela nipple that came with my breast pump.

Recently, we got a couple of breastflows to try out, which she does better with (she's able to stop and breathe, for example).

My LC recommended Ventaire narrow and Dr. Brown's narrow as the slowest flowing bottles she's worked with, so I'm planning on trying them soon.  She also said that the Medela Calma flows WAY too fast, so that makes me glad the sticker-shock at the price kept me from wasting my money.

If I'm going to a baby shower any time in the near future, they'll be getting a "variety pack" of bottles to try, since that would have been a wonderfully useful gift for us.

  • He has only ever had Dr. Brown's. It's the first he ever had and he has never had a problem with them, so we've never even tried anything else.
