Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What is your 10 month old doing?

We went in for my 9 almost 10 month olds check up and I feel like my child is behind in a couple areas. He does not hold his own bottle but can hold his sippy cup pretty good,  he army crawls very good and can lift his stomach off the floor but would rather army crawl, he can pull himself onto his knees but not stand up yet. He likes to feed himself puffs and other food, but is not picking them up with his pointer finger and thumb, rather he uses his hand in a rake motion? I know that every baby is different and the dr didn't seem too alarmed, I guess I am just wondering if any other babies are like mine?

Re: What is your 10 month old doing?

  • DD just started consistantly holding her bottle about 2 weeks ago... she has never crawled nor shown any interest in it (army or otherwise!)

DD does pinch her food pretty well - tho is no fan of chunky foods and spits them out...

She has VERY recently begun to pull up and LOVES to stand... we bought her a push behind (the triangular one) and she is crazy now, it's scary... mostly for the dog!

Every baby is different - love what you got cuz the grass isn't always greener!

  • Our LO has been holding her own bottle for quite a while. We have moved onto the sippy cup. She uses it, but doesn't love it. She is crawling everywhere, pulling up, and cruising now. No standing on her own or walking. She is all table food now, with the exception of her bottles. Prefers to feed herself. first tooth just broke through. She is clapping, has started pointing, and can get up the stairs if given the opportunity.

Grass is definitely not greener. It is exciting to see the development, but there are ZERO restfull moments except when she is asleep. She is attracted to all things dangerous!

If your doctor is not concerned, you shouldn't be either. All babies are different. There is a girl in my LO's daycare that is walking. But then there are others her age that are exactly where you are.

  • My son will be 11 months next week and he just started crawling this past weekend.  He still doesn't really hold his own bottle...you can get him to do it for a short period of time but hes just not into it.  He feeds himself a lot of things and does use his index finger and thumb.  He still wont drink out of a sippy.  He holds on to it fine but still hasn't got the concept.  Im not worried :)

Grass DEFINITELY isn't greener over here either. My little one is 9m6d old and has been walking since 7.5 months old. Started crawling at 5 months. ALWAYS gets into things that are dangerous! I have to constantly be on my toes, and he's not sleeping through the night so I am one tired mama. He claps and waves. I EBF and he's never had a bottle, but he holds his sippy cup really well (still won't drink out of it). He uses his pincer grasp, but still kind of prefers to palm - he likes to shovel food into his mouth.

Let your LO develop at his own pace. Sounds like he is doing fine! :)

  • OP:  my little guy is definitely behind in some areas as well.  He doesn't care to hold his own bottle but I don't think that's a big deal, he does hold and drink out of his sippy cup by himself, he is army crawling and prob on the verge of actual crawling but he can't pull up or getting into a sitting position of his own yet. We just had his 9 month appointment this morning and I expressed my concerns to the Dr.  He tried to brush them off at first but I was adamant and he finally listened.  He agreed that we should have a development specialist check him out, just in case. Better safe than sorry and I'd rather get him some help to catch up rather than him get farther behind. He was 6 weeks premature btw.

  • My son will be 10 months on the 13th and he has already been crawling for a couple weeks now.  He holds his bottle and sippy cup, and also loves to feed himself finger foods!
