Lets talk cows milk

So the one year mark is coming... And our Ped said to introduce cows milk slowly but I have other questions, that I of course, forgot to ask.
So if I feed her 21 ounces of formula now? Would I still be giving her the same amount of milk?
And I use room temp water to make formula now with milk do I give it to her cold? I feel like that would upset her tummy suggestions?

Re: Lets talk cows milk

  • Temperature shouldn't bother her stomach, but she might need help getting used to it. I'd suggest gradually introducing colder bottles.

The calories she's losing from not having formula should be replaced with table food, so no, you're not giving that much milk.

Good idea to start doing colder formula bottles now and she does get table food she eats basically everything we eat she eats food twice a day cant believe how big she's getting
  • At around 10.5 months, we offered a small sippy of WCM at dinner. He's shocked by the cold, but thinks it's funny. By 11.5 months, he was taking a decent amount at dinner, and we added some at lunch.

2 weeks ago, I started adding it to his daycare bottles. 3oz BM and 1oz WCM. This week it's half and half. He's doing well with it. WCM is a drink that suppliments his nutrition, not a replacement of formula/BM.

We were told by the pedi we could start slowy introducting cows milk at 10 months, he said to make sure it was cold.  I started with a sippy cupt just practicing at her 7pm dinner.  About 2 weeks ago I started giving her cows milk (instead of formula in sippy) at her 11am lunch.  I had wanted to next week to take the 4pm lunch/dinner to a cows milk sippy cup but my inlaws will be here for a week and I hate to put too much on her at one time.
  • I am pretty sure formula doesn't have that many calories, its the nutritional value you are giving it for. Wcm isn't a meal replacement. It seems like wcm has more calories. That being said we are failing at the sippy. We have tried 6 kinds and styles now and he just wants it held. We fail here. We will prob introduce wcm in april, ds is an end of monther though.

  • The past week we have been giving DD 2 oz of WCM and 4 oz of formula in her bottles. She will take it warm or cold, but I think she prefers it warm.

  • We were told max 16 oz a day, that seems to be standard recommendation from pedis in this area. DS is not picky at all, he'll drink any kind of milk warm or cold lol. We've been giving him a sippy of milk a day for the last week or two, he'll drink the whole thing over the course of a day.
