Really Freaked Out Dad

My fiancee is really freaked out about being a dad. He is so worried about being a good parent, and whether he can give them everything, and if they will respect him... Idk how to make him relax and stop worrying so much. I'm sure he will do great, but he worries way too much. Any advice on how to get him to relax?

Re: Really Freaked Out Dad

  • Let him know that the fact that he's worrying about it, means that he will be a good dad.  Bad dads don't give a crap, they don't worry about anything and they don't care about giving their kids what they deserve.  Parenting isn't about being perfect, or rich or 100% prepared.  It's about love, and being present.  He'll be fine :)

  • You know, I read on Pinterest( I am horribly addicted to hat website) "Behind every greay kid is a mom who's sure she's screwing it up" That applies to dads too and I agree with the other mom. He's going to be a great dad because he WANTS to be a great dad.

  • I agree, the fact that he is worrying so much is his relief right there. Most fathers dont worry until the day the baby is born which says alot about the kind of father they are going to be. He sounds like he is going to be awesome !

    Congrats to you both !

  • My DH was pretty freaked out about everything until I started sharing what was going on with him. I forgot that he doesn't know much about this process. Maybe try sharing your concerns about being a parent with him so he knows he is not alone. Also, get some parenting books and read them together. It might help ease his mind.

  • My fiance also has his days where he freaks out over everything and nothing at all.  It's completely normal to freak out sometimes, whether it's your first, second, or sixth baby.  Things will be okay.
