Sorry to butt in (especially when it's been FOREVER since I've posted anything) -
I read a ped's article about which milk to give if obesity runs in the family. Since a large percentage of my family is obese, including me, I paid attention. He suggested giving 2% milk if obesity is present. We'll be talking about this at her 12 mo check up for sure.

This. I believe there have been recent changes in the reccommendations. DS is a string bean (over 100% for height and 50% for weight) so he had whole until 2 years and then switched to skim. However, a friends whose kid had the percentages reversed (higher weight than height) and saw the same pedi went straight to 2%.

Thanks again, this makes sense. My LO is slim and tall so I'm sure pedi will say whole milk. thanks for the info
We do whole until age 2, then switch to 2%. I know there is talk about
whole milk and obesity but I believe if your children are eating
balanced diets with whole milk, it's not a huge concern. I have no
intentions of giving my kids anything less than 2% at this point.
Our Pedi said the same. DD is really small so we plan to continue the whole milk until age 2. However, her daycare only serves 1% milk so I think we are going to start bringing our own milk for them to give her there.
