Family Crisis

My SO was fired today. - I'm holding it together but freaking out on the inside.

I got a small raise a few months ago and as a result we made the choice to move to a bigger place.  Right now we pay the rent with one of our checks and spend almost the whole other check on everything else (and our new rent will be $250 more/mo).  We're paid up through April, and we have a little bit of money in savings.  As long as he gets another job soon we should be ok.  But, I know what the job market's like.  I'm scared we wont get by

I want to have confidence in him that he can do this, that he can step up and get another job.  I know he can when he's 100%, but he's been battling some severe depression lately and I'm scared this will make that worse.  He's already got an appointment with his psychiatrist for tomorrow (at my request), so hopefully she can help get him through this in a way that I can't.  Hopefully she can keep his head above water and he'll be able to step up and accomplish this.

I know he can do it, but all this uncertainty is really scary.

Re: Family Crisis

  • I'm really sorry to hear that. Will he at least be eligible for unemployment? Hopefully that will help a little.

  • He'll be getting unemployment, and he'll be getting a good reference from his company too. We're fortunate in that.

He's a database analyst, but with no formal education for that. His years of experience aren't quite enough to balance that out though and equivalent his job within this company was such a niche position that its going to be hard to properly communicate all that he did into a cv. he's great at what he does, I really hope any potential employers can see it.
  • I am so sorry to hear this. Prayers that he finds something soon.

  • Thanks for all the T&P ladies!  It really means a lot! - We're fingers crossed.  He's already filed for his unemployment as of this morning and is out dropping off resumes (I'm so proud of how he's handling this so far).
  • Hang in there!  It is a really scary time.  My SO was out of work last year from April to July after our LO was born early in February.  I had just gotten off of unpaid maternity leave and wondered how we were going to make it too.  We got some help from family, but we relied VERY heavily on our faith too.  We will be praying for you here on the board :)  Is there anything at the moment that you need that we might be able to send?
