How many pairs of underwear for newly PT toddler?

How many pairs of underwear do you  have for your toddler who is pretty recently PT? DS has been in underwear when at home for the last several weekends, but has still been wearing pull ups to school. I want to start sending him in underwear next week (he hasn't had an accident in weeks), but I don't know how many I pairs I should have in total. Obviously I will need to send a few extra pairs to daycare just in case. I usually do his laundry once a week.

  • We have about 15 or so pairs. Most were gifts though from our adoption shower. I'm not sure we would have bought that many. We do laundry 2-3 times per week and are never close to running out.

  • I would say about 15 pairs is good.

  • I bought 3 packs, so probably 12.   I make sure LO has 3 changes of clothes everyday at daycare.  He has 3 pairs of underwear, pants and socks and 2 pairs of shoes.   Some days he doesn't need any changes and sometimes he is on his last change when I go to pick him up.  No matter, I always make sure he has 3 changes of clothes when I drop him off in the morning.

ETA: I usually do one load of laundry every other night or so

  • DS has 19 pairs, but that is really too many. He got some as a gift so we kept them. I leave 2 in our diaper bag and 2 in his school cubby, so he has 15 pair to rotate at home. But since he very rarely has accidents I do his laundry about twice a week we could easily get by with 10 at home.

  • When he was newly PT he just had a 6 pack of race car ones he picked out. A little on down the road we bought him another pack so he has 12 in total. He still has his favorite ones he likes to wear so I'm still doing laundry a lot. LOL
  • Probably too many:)  When my daughter was potty training, I just threw away the undies when there was a bm accident.  We probably at 30-40 pairs.  By the end, we were down to 15-20.  I bought 12 packs at Costco for $10.

  • I think we only had 10 each. I did not throw away w/ Bm accidents unless it was really loose & really hard to rinse out, that seems wasteful to me but to each her own. Never had a problem having only 10 since we had to do laundry multiple times a week b/c of the accidents regardless. In the beginning w/ DS I made sure to have 3 pairs & 3 pants & a couple socks in his DC backpack, though DD trained so quickly it never really mattered. I think 15 is probably good though.
  • We bought like 15. After 9 months of being potty trained, we maybe have half that left. They get washed a lot, accidents stained them, bouts of diarrhea made us throw some pairs away, etc so you go through them pretty quickly even if poop accidents are a seldom occurance. They don't move up in sizes in underwear very quickly so you can buy a lot and still use them in a year from now.

  • DS has 12 pairs.  We keep three at daycare at all times.  Even if he doesn't have a true accident, sometimes he pees on himself or his underwear when he's on the potty.

How in the world do you get away with just one load of laundry a week?  Your kid must be much cleaner than mine!

I don't really have the time or inclination to do laundry during the week is pretty much what it boils down to, lol. I usually do 2 of his loads though, on the weekends.

  • We had about 12-14 pair for DD1. In the early days, we went through those in 3-4 days so having a bunch was great. Now that she's fully day trained and almost never has an accident it's overkill, but since I bought two of the same sets she always has her favorites clean to wear :P

  • DD was just potty trained last week and we have 14 pairs that fit her well and 14 pairs that I bought a few month ago that are smaller so I don't use those unless we are out of the others.

I do her laundry once a week.

  • Seriously, DD peobably has like 24 pairs of underwear. She has been doing really well recently, but for months she was having trouble pooping and I got tired of scraping sh*t out of her pants so I just started throwing them away. The reason she has so many is because we bought the Faded Glory brand from Wal-Mart (they are the best fit) and they come in a pack of 12. Good luck! It sucks in the beginning. DDs been PTing since September and she still has an accident here and there. Mostly when she is playing and just doesn't want to go. So we bribe her. :)

  • We have about 15 pairs of underwear.

  • I also only do laundry once a week and only one load for her.

Daycare asked us to send in 5 full changes of clothes (including at least one pair of spare shoes) when we sent her in undies.  So we have those 5 pairs that stay at school, plus another 12 or so at home.
