March 2013 Moms

Elliot James is here!

After 40w 4d, I'm delighted to share that Elliot James arrived at 2:16pm this afternoon, making me an AMA FTM of a healthy baby boy. He's 7lbs 12 oz and off to a good start of nursing and pooping.

I was one of those rare-ish situations where the water broke first. Thankfully, it was in our home and not at work! I got up around 1:15a to go to the bathroom and noticed that water was gushing out of me. I quickly realized what was up and called the doctor. Since I wasn't have contractions, they recommended I wait until either the contractions started or just before morning traffic to come in. The contractions started at 4:15a and I instantly knew everything I *thought* were contractions over the weekend were just intense BH. It is such a different pain! They were intense but far apart, so we gave it another hour. 5:30a we left for the hospital, spent 30 min in triage with severe and frequent contractions and was admitted at 6:30a. I was still at 4 cm but the contractions were very intense to the point they suggested I do all my epidural prep (paperwork, IV) so that when I was ready for it, I could get it faster. An hour later, I was on epidural and so chill it's not even funny. I am officially a HUGE fan of the epidural! After only 4 hrs, I was up to 9 cm and amazing all the nurses, doctors and residents with my quick progression. An hour of pushing and our boy was out! Quite a bit of cleaning and some stitching (2nd degree tear) but I was so enamored with the little guy on my chest I didn't care.

Here's to wishing the rest of the March moms as smooth of a delivery as I had. Words can't describe how exciting it is to hold him in my arms and begin our next chapter together.
