Nita

Did I read correctly on the man hating post that you spend 180 on groceries a month? Is that total?! That is what I spend on groceries a week, what am I doing wrong here?

What does everyone else spend a week or month on groceries? I know you nosy nellies opened this post even though it was directed at Nita, chime in please!

Re: Nita

  • I'm pretty close to your number. I'd say between 140 to about 160 a week. I even meal plan and eat out very little now. I don't know how I could cut back much further.

  • 150 a week on average. It drives me insane! This includes the usual weekly lunches and dinners. Wtf?

  • If I shop once a week I spend 150 to 175. If I shop every two weeks I spend around 235. When I ordered groceries online I saved a little more. Even when I feel like I've bought nothing it still adds up and will probably only get worse.
  • We are at about $150, with meal planning and only eating out for one meal.  I would love it to be lower, but I can't seem to get there.

  • Yeah, I spend about 200 bucks on food a month. I buy on sale, do a lot of couponing and try out recipes for budgets and such.
Mostly, though, I am currently using up a lot of stuff from my freezer. I need the room for breastmilk. So I don't spend a lot on meat as i have it in already.

  • We spend a little over $100/wk on groceries - less if we don't pick up alcohol (rarely) or have a lot of vegetarian meals planned (often)

We spend about 100 per week too, but it also helps that H's work pays for his lunch. Otherwise it would be more.

We also live in the city though when I drive to the suburbs to get groceries it costs less, but then it costs money in gas.

  • Oh, and I have tried to go back to basics...bake my own bread, stuff like that.

  • Kudos to you guys that can spend so much less than me. The paleo diet increased my grocery bills, but I eat out a lot less so it balances out. In all,I spend between 700 and 800 a month on food, and it is so frustrating!

  • Where do you buy your groceries? I have to find a cheaper place to buy groceries.  I hate buying groceries around here (riverside south-ish).  I nearly had a stroke at the cost of milk when we first moved here.

  • I spend $60 to $80 a week, if I spend more I usually am shopping for more than just one week. I am super cheap, always look at sales, buy generics if they are cheaper, and use coupons when I can. My FIL is a purchasing manager for a meat company, so we do get lots of steak and such for free when we visit them.

  • I also spend about $175 to $200 a week on groceries. It's ridiculous. I have to admit when we were eating crappier our food expenses were significantly less. Now that we eat healthier and buy a lot more produce and organic, and less processed foods, pasta, and such it's much, much more expensive. I try to get what I can on sale, but there is only so much I can do. I'm sure living in a high cost of living area doesn't help.
