Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Baby won't sleep in crib

I'm trying to reintroduce sleeping in the crib to my son who is now used to his rock n play at night. In his rock n play he sleeps for 3 hour stretches. In his crib he's up every hour and a half. I feel horrible that he's getting such little sleep but the transition will have to happen eventually so I'd rather do it now than later when he's older and it's harder. He's swaddled, has a crib wedge for his reflux to keep him inclined a bit and I have a towel under the sheet in a U shape to keep him from sliding away from the wedge. Any advice? Anyone do this transition? How long did it take?

Re: Baby won't sleep in crib

  • We transitioned DD about a month and a half ago.  It took about 3 weeks for her to not wake up often, and even now she is waking more than when she was in her RNP.  It is slowly getting better though.  Probably not what you wanted to hear, but just be patient, he will figure it out eventually.

  • We weaned DS off the RnP when he was 1 month old.  NOt sure if that method will work for your DS since he's 4 months?  What we did back then was start him off in the RnP at night.  After MOTN, we move him to the crib for the remainder of the night.  He's sleepier MOTN so the transition was a bit easier...

  • I'm in the same boat.  My DD feet are hanging off the end of the RnP but she hates he crib.  She too has reflux.  Part of me wishes we had just put her in the crib from Day 1 but too late now! I really need to get her sleeping in a crib since that is what she will nap in at daycare.  I joked with my husband that between her reflux and non-napping she may be the first baby to be thrown out of daycare.  LOL

    good luck!

  • I'd start to stop putting him in the RNP so he can get used to his crib.
