We started DD on oatmeal a couple of weeks ago and it is going SLOW. She has never even came close to eating the whole bowl.
So ever since starting this, she has slept like crap. She is having daily BMs, which is not normal for her...she used to go every 3 days. However, the past couple have been hard...like what I compare to a cat turd...it even rolled out of the diaper !
We quit giving any solids 2 days ago and she slept better, however still had a hard BM this morning. She will be 6 months on Sunday.
Has anyone ever had this issue and is it normal that she's not even close to eating all of it ? Any tips ? Do they have to have cereal or can we just start veggies on Sunday and leave cereal behind ?
Re: Oatmeal problems
We are having constipation issues with oatmeal - we didn't have them with rice. You do not need to give cereal at all if you don't want to
My Ped said that it really doesn't matter - and I know a LOT of people skip cereals all together.
Unfortunately I think tummy trouble of some sort is going to be common with the transition..
1. I think you need to clarify what "a whole bowl" is. Is it a couple tablespoons of cereal, or literally a whole bowl (half cup or more). Is it really thick, or could it be poured?
2. After 6 months is usually fine to start fruits and vegetables. But each child is different.
3. Frequency of BMs change as solid intake changes. If its so hard that it is causing LO pain you probably need to cut back or get seen by a doctor to discuss the issue.
4. How frequently does LO get a bowl of cereal?
Sorry, I was rambling..
A whole bowl equals 1 TBSP of oatmeal to 4 TBSP of formula. We left it pretty thin until she got sed to it. We tried to thicken it and she wasn't a fan.
Frequency was only once a day...we wanted to work up to twice a day but never got there because once a day didn't go that well.
I have DD on rice cereal due to her reflux and plan to start oatmeal soon. But you may want to look into the Happy Bellies brand. It's great and has probiotics so should aid in constipation. It's sold at target and organic.
oh and the cat turd comparison made me giggle!
Try a 1/2 tbsp or just move on to veggies.
