What age did your baby babble?

DS is over 7 months and still doesn't really babble much. He makes sounds and laughs a lot but no real babbling. You can see his tongue in his mouth moving like he is trying to talk but no sounds come out.

Im not worried just wonder what the cool kids are doing.

Re: What age did your baby babble?

  • I honestly can't remember when he babbled. But when he did it lasted a minute b/c he was in the middle of some physical developments that were much more interesting to him and he clammed up for a while.

  • DD started babbling a lot around 4 months. I thinking she's going to be a non-stop talker like her daddy, though. Haha! Sometimes she'll just move her mouth and tongue without making any sounds, like she's practicing before actually saying it.

Same here, except I am the non-stop talker ;)

  • DS is 6 months old today and still doesn't really "babble."  He will scream, shreek and make sounds but its not like "babababa" or "ma ma ma" it's just random noises and sounds.

  • DS found his voice at 4 months.  I like to call it singing, but really he is just yelling.  About a month ago he started really babbling with mum-mum-mum, da-da-da, ba-ba-ba sounds.  They dont mean anything I know, but it is still cute.  He will watch my mouth and try to repeat what I say.

DD started around 4mo, but it's hit or miss. Some days she'll have hour long conversations with her stuffed animals, some days nada.

She rarely laughs. I remember two giggles ever. But she smiles all the time!

  • Sometime around 5 months. Babababababababa dadadadadada. Never mamamama until much later, that stinker (I know it doesn't mean anything, I just wanted to hear it even if it was just babbling).

Once she started, she pretty much hasn't really shut up since. Our days feel like a constant stream of consciousness these days and following her "train" of thought is honestly exhausting. She'll be chattering away about birds then all of a sudden switch topics mid-sentence and expect you to be totally paying attention when really I'm generally just acting automatically at that point saying "Yes B, that's right birds fly." "Yes, we saw birds at Granny and Papa's house." Or whatever it is. Then she gets all indignant and louder and goes "NO BIRDS MOMMY, TRAINS. GO ON CHOO CHOO TRAIN. METRO." And I have to catch up and switch topics. So.much.noise.

  • DD started early at 3 mo.  BUT she did not crawl until 10 mo.  They develop so differently on things.  IT is like they have to put so much energy into one thing that the other gets left behind.

    Ahahahaha! This is too funny.

DD started chattering away to herself around three months. Girl loves her vowels, and like PP said, it sounds like a lot of singing or yelling. She wakes up "talking" to herself, but I don't feel like we've got any traditional babbling going on (no "babababa" or "dadadada"). Sometimes she'll say "guh."

  • G just started this week with "dadada, bababa, and an occasional mama".
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • DD: Late, at 9 months exactly. I was getting concerned and 9 months was my cutoff for calling the pedi, and she looked up at me and said "bababababa". She's been a later talker all along but eventually caught up. Now she never stops.

DS: Just started with "mam mam mam" this week! Of course he's asking for me.

  • L is just over 3 months and found his voice last weekend. He is non stop now during diaper changes. He tells me all about it.
