I, too, get the typical moron comments about how big I'm getting, yadda yadda, but today I received the 5th comment about how that person is "so glad I don't wear tight maternity clothes". I've had several people go on and on about how "gross" (yes, they used the word gross) it is when pregnant women wear tight maternity clothing and/or their bellies hang out. From both genders.
Well, news flash co-workers -- my clothes will soon be tight now that I'm entering 3rd tri., but you are welcome to buy me loose ones so that I don't "gross you out!" Ha! And here I thought my biggest worry at work was the possibility of peeing my pants in the event I sneeze too hard (you're not cool unless you pee your pants). Le sigh!
Re: Now I have to worry about what clothes I wear?
I wish I could tell all those people that it is equally gross when people wear inappropraite clothes to work with their pot belly hanging out or their boobs popping out.
I am suprised they used the word gross though.
I wouldn't call my clothes "tight", but a lot of them are fitted. If not, I look like a ginormous tent. I didn't realize so many people are against this. Granted, everything I purchased covers my belly, hips, and tush. But I guess it is gross to see the shape of my belly, lol. What do they expect us to wear? Moo moos?
I fortunately have not had anyone say anything this stupid to me - if I did, I would probably punch them! (My tolerance for stupidity has dropped significantly since becoming pregnant). Why do people feel it's okay to say things like this to pregnant women? It's just like telling someone they are too heavy or too thin or not pretty, etc. etc., to their faces - most people wouldn't do this!!
ETA: I am proud of my belly and am going to show it off. Are there days where I feel gross and not pretty? Um, yeah! I don't want/need other people making me feel worse about myself.
Pregnancy is a beautiful thing!! FLAUNT IT!! They would be the ones with morning sickness if they saw my outfits! It's winter...there are NO "flowy" outfits that allow a waist of 120mm in a 41D bust!! I'm carrying twins too AND I'm five feet tall! Hehe I just laugh at people that are concerned and affected by my choice of clothing.
I've seen some inappropriate clothing on people, but their excuse usually isn't pregnancy! We got enough going on. It their issue, let 'em feel nauseous for once.
Sorry, I've lost all patience for this stuff.
Also weird is that my sister literally doubled her body weight when she was pregnant, from 94 lbs to 188 lbs so she has no room to discuss "gaining so much". Don't worry she is only 5' tall, the 94 lbs was fine on her.
I think fitted tops are cute! This is the one time when wearing a shirt that shows off a round belly is actually a good thing in my opinion. I have a few baggy shirts but I just feel like I look fat instead of pregnant in them.
Granted I did see a girl who looked about 39 weeks pregnant walking out to the sidewalk at her house with her shirt rolled up above her belly and thought "ok time to pull your shirt down" but that's just because any adult walking around in a shirt covering what a bra should is a bit much.
We had a girl at our community pool in a bikini last summer and I thought she looked great. I'm sure your coworkers would have been offended by her too.
I refuse to wear the giant circus-tent clothes. I'm not going out in spandex with an exposed belly, but most of my clothes are fitted (with the exception of a few tunics and maxi dresses). People need to get over it. I heard something similar from a co-worker yesterday when he said, "WOW! You really are showing in that dress! Guess you can't wear it for much longer." Uh yeah, I can and I will.
I wear those Pure Body Gap supersoft t-shirts almost every day, and yeah, you can see the outline of my belly quite well. Oh well, too bad, so sad if you don't like it.
Absolutely this. Those giant clothes look good on no one.
My Blog
I think you're right about this. My grandmother said something to my mom about how she hopes I don't wear tight clothes. She thinks it's immodest I guess. No one else has said anything like that to me directly though thankfully!
I think you are right to some degree. My mom wanted to buy me a shirt but thought all the maternity shirts at Kohls looked "snug" or tied just below the boobs and she didn't like any of them! That being said my sister that thinks pregnancy looks gross is 35 and a mother of two, so some people are just dumb. (I do love my sister but WTF is that)
I agree. I try to buy clothes that are tight because I want to show off my belly. I hate loose and unfitted stuff that makes me look enormous.
