It's tough when people make insensitive comments. Sounds like you're gaining right on track though! You're supposed to gain 24 lbs by 24 weeks with twins, and about 37-54 total if you start pregnancy at normal weight. If it's people you're closer to, maybe just politely let them know you'd rather not keep talking about your size and hope they spread the word. (Though of course they should already know better!) Or just put your hand on their belly and say, "And how far along are *you* now?"
It sounds like you're right on track as far as weight gain goes....every body is different and you definitely need to gain more with twins than you would with a singleton. I can relate to not feeling great about it, though....I gained 50 lbs (which are all gone 2 months pp, btw) and, though I felt OK with it, I didn't exactly want to discuss it with other people (like MIL who would text me after every doctor's apt to ask how much weight I had gained :-P) As far as how to answer, I'm not one for clever comebacks (at least not in the moment;) so I would usually try to redirect. If someone said "Oh my gosh your belly is so huge!" or something like that I'd say "Yep, the babies are growing! Isn't it great?!"
I know it's annoying but try to not let it get to you too much. At least you have a reason for gaining weight! Also, consider it preparation for all the other odd/insensitive/crazy remarks that people will make to you when you're a MoM....at least we can all vent and laugh together.:)

And yes, this is probably your best bet for a response.
Just wanted to say I'm in the same boat as you right now. I've gained 25 lbs and I'm 27 weeks. I work in the public and a lot of people just have to tell me how big I am. I can deal with them, but the worst part is my manager who tells me atleast three times a day," do you know how huge you're gonna be?" Like I haven't realized I'm growing TWO babies, duh!!
I can totally sympathize with you. I work for a large company so seeing new people on the elevator always makes for new comments. I'm 30 weeks and have gained 40 lbs. Today I was asked if I was due tomorrow. My patience with the stares and comments is wearing thin.
I've probably gained aboutt 15-20 lbs-I feel like its a ton, but my doctor really wants me at 24 lbs at 24 weeks.
I also am already getting tired of people making comments about how I look like I'm going to pop-I still have over 3 months left people-just wait until you see how huge I'm going to get!

I'm 31 weeks and have gained about 35 lbs so far. I've just resigned myself to gaining more than I wanted. Instead of people telling me how big I am, they tell me how tiny I am. I'm tall, so maybe I'm more spread out, but it's starting to give me a complex.
TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
Pregnancy weight gain is challenging for a woman's emotions at any time, but a twin pregnancy certainly ups the ante! I was a bit overweight when I got pregnant, so I only gained 29 pounds and was thrilled with that. Most women seem to gain 40-55 lbs based on what I've seen here, it seems, if you're of average weight to begin with. Even with a relatively low weight gain for twins, I still felt like a whale and got comments from people. I was about as far along as you are now and was feeling pretty good about my gain so far, when someone asked when I was due. When I said three months, I got an "Oh, wow!" I felt defensive and said I was having twins, and the person replied, "Oh! Well, that explains it." THANKS A LOT, DUDE.
You're doing awesome so far. Also, it was in my experience at least that my weight gain was the most between weeks 20-28. After that it slowed down considerably, and I even lost weight a few weeks towards the end. The babies take up so much space that eating becomes a real challenge. Stay strong, you're growing adorable, healthy babies, and you'll lose the weight easily once you start chasing after them
I gained about 50 pounds and I was fairly skinny when I got pregnant. I had people saying I looked like I was about to give birth any minute when I was only 5 months pregnant. At 9 months people gawked at the size of my belly when I was out and about. I just tried to brush it off and remember that carrying 2 babies is a tough freaking job!
I lost 30 pounds right away, but I still have 20 to go. I'm struggling with my weight way more now than I did when the babies were still in there!
I gained a total of 36lbs and made it to 35.6 weeks. At the very end I gained 9 lbs in 9 days and the comments I got were insane. When I would go to the hospital for appointments I seriously had nurses awwing me in the hallway because they felt so bad for me. I didn't think I was THAT huge! But apparently I was. Blah. I'm sorry you are feeling down today, try not to worry about it. If your doctor is not worried about it then you shouldn't be either.
You keep your dignity by reminding yourself that your body is a fracking miraculous, badaaass baby making machine. You're growing 2 babies!! It's amazing!
Anyway, I gained about 27 pounds by 30 weeks and all total I gained 43 (the last 10 or so were all water gained in the last couple of weeks. I essentially gained about 5 pounds of actual weight for the last 7 weeks. By the time I came home from the hospital I had lost over 30 of those pounds and by 5 months PP (because I was lazy and didn't exercise or BF) I was back to my prepregnancy weight.
Seriously, don't stress about weight. Focus on your precious babies.

I gained 20lbs by 24 weeks and 48 lbs total (delivered at 38 weeks). People's comments can be hard to take but just know your body is doing amazing things!
I was a normal weight before pregnancy and I gained a total of a whopping 56 pounds during my pregnancy. A lot of people were telling me that I looked small for twins until I blew up like a balloon towards the end due to all the water weight. Then people stopped commenting haha. If I had known how quickly the weight would come off, I wouldnt have been so depressed about it when I was pregnant. I was down 41 pounds by my 2 week PP check up! The last 15 I've had to work for, but it's been coming off pretty easily now that I have time to watch what I eat and exercise a little bit.
I've gained 22 lbs at 25 weeks. The doctor said I'm on track and they'd like me to gain around 40 lbs total. I was overweight before pregnancy, so they don't want me going crazy. I am super swollen and carrying a lot of water weight which I can't seem to get rid of at all, I'm assuming that's adding to the weight gain.
I think your gain is appropriate and I wouldn't worry if I were you.
